Jacob Wetterling-Danny Heinrich link detailed in filing

JACOB WETTERLING ABDUCTION - CLUES LEFT BEHIND ?

A court document filed this week in connection with the federal child p*********y case against Danny Heinrich spells out why he is considered a person of interest in the kidnapping of Jacob Wetterling.

Daniel James Heinrich

The filing, part of a memorandum in opposition to Heinrichs motions to suppress evidence and change the venue of his upcoming trial, details the similarities between the Oct. 22, 1989, kidnapping of 11-year-old Wetterling; the Jan. 13, 1989, abduction and sexual assault of a 13-year-old Cold Spring, Minn. boy; and a string of sexually motivated assaults of young boys in the Paynesville, Minn., area in the mid- to late-1980s.

It has long been believed that the Cold Spring and Wetterling abductions were likely to have been committed by the same person, according to the memorandum, which was filed in U.S. District Court on Wednesday. The abductions were committed in the same geographic area, involved similarly aged boys, were committed by a lone male suspect and occurred within months of each other.

Retested DNA evidence last year linked Heinrich to the 1989 kidnapping and sexual assault of Jared Scheierl in Cold Spring, nine months before Wetterlings abduction. The Pioneer Press typically doesnt identify victims of sexual assault, but Scheierl has spoken publicly for years about his case.

When law enforcement officials searched Heinrichs Annandale house in July, they found child p*********y and photos and videos of young boys. Heinrich was arrested in October and later charged with 25 counts of possessing and receiving child p*********y; he pleaded not guilty to those charges in February in U.S. District Court. His jury trial is slated to begin July 11 in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis.

Heinrich cannot be charged in connection with the Scheierl case because the statute of limitations in place at the time has expired. He also has not been charged in connection with the Wetterling abduction.

Wetterling was taken less than a mile from his home in St. Joseph, which is about 20 miles from Paynesville.

Heinrich was questioned in 1989 and 1990 about the disappearance, but authorities say he has denied any involvement.

Wetterling was riding his bicycle with his brother and a friend Oct. 22, 1989, when a masked gunman abducted him from a rural road. Authorities decided to take a fresh look at the case last year.

Although the kidnapping has generated more than 50,000 leads over the years, the crime remains unsolved and continues to haunt Minnesota law enforcement officers. It spurred new federal laws requiring states to create s*x-offender registries.

Jacobs parents, Patty and Jerry Wetterling, founded the Jacob Wetterling Resource Center, which works to help communities and families prevent child exploitation, and Patty Wetterling became a national advocate for children.

Heinrichs attorneys, chief federal public defender for Minnesota Katherian Roe and assistant federal public defender Reynaldo Aligada, have asked that his trial be moved out of Minnesota and that evidence and statements be suppressed.

In Wednesdays filing, prosecutors asked the judge to deny the request for a change of venue, saying the defendant has made no showing that fair jurors cannot be found in Minnesota through a careful process of jury selection.

Prosecutors also said the defendants motion to suppress his collection of child p*********y should be denied because the evidence was seized pursuant to a valid warrant that was issued by a judge and based upon an affidavit supported by probable cause.

Statements made by Heinrich to law enforcement officers also should not be thrown out, prosecutors argued.

Officers are not required to provide Miranda warnings when a defendant is not in custody, according to the memorandum. Heinrich voluntarily accompanied police to his own residence and proceeded to engage in hours of conversation while sipping beer, sitting at a picnic table in his own back yard, having been told he was free to leave.

Heinrich also was not in custody when he invited officers inside his home and proceeded to speak with them at his own kitchen table, the memorandum states. No reasonable person would believe they were in custody in these circumstances.

The Light Between Oceans Official Trailer #1 (2016) - Alicia Vikander, Michael Fassbender Movie HD

With the film"s tone already set in salt and magnified by Alexandre Desplat"s soaring yet ominous score there"s very little pleasure to be had in watching the couple bask in the warmth of parenthood. As surely as that lighthouse beam will swing round again, the baby"s mother is certain to come looking for her and in the fiercely distraught person of Rachel Weisz, no less.

Ah, but I have ventured further into the plot than the trailer reveals. Let"s just say the layers of tragedy that are heaped upon these characters create a Dagwood sandwich of misfortune. The only way to relieve their wretchedness is to cut away from the action and return 25 years later, at which point one or two final indignities are tossed in for good measure.

In 2004, I interviewed James Elkins, an academic who wrote Pictures & Tears, a history of art that exists primarily to make people cry. Yes, Elkins explained, before modern movies came along to lead the charge, entire schools of painting and sculpture had been created for precisely this reason.

"Crying at a movie puts you in touch with emotions you would ordinarily suppress," Elkins said. "It"s good to lose control sometimes. Otherwise you"re setting yourself up as someone who knows more about the world than Leonardo or Hitchcock."

The Light Between Oceans is no Hitchcock, nor is it about to be screened beside the Mona Lisa at the Louvre. But like the works of those ingenious craftsmen, the film accomplishes its primary objective with consummate efficiency and skill.

Yes, it"s crying time again. But for more than enough moviegoers, that"s no crying shame.

QB Sam Bradford Traded To The Vikings

Sam Bradford film breakdown vs Colts Week 3 Preseason 2016

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Sam Bradford got the trade he wanted months ago just eight days before the season opener.

The Philadelphia Eagles sent Bradford to the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday for a pair of draft picks. Bradford replaces Teddy Bridgewater, who went down for the season after suffering a gruesome knee injury this week.

The Eagles receive a first-round pick in 2017 and a fourth-round pick in 2018.

Bradfords departure means backup Chase Daniel will start the season as Philadelphias No. 1 quarterback. Carson Wentz, selected with the No. 2 overall pick, missed the last three preseason games after breaking his ribs. McLeod Bethel-Thompson is currently the third quarterback on Philadelphias roster.

The Vikings will be turning to Bradford over veteran Shaun Hill once Bradford learns yet another new system. Bradford will now play for his sixth offensive coordinator Norv Turner in seven seasons. A former 2010 No. 1 overall pick, Bradford was acquired from St. Louis by Chip Kelly last year. He had a strong second half in Kellys up-tempo offense.

Bradford passed up a chance to test free agency and signed a two-year, $36 million with $22 million guaranteed in March. He regretted the decision after the Eagles traded several draft picks to select Wentz, and Bradford skipped some voluntary workouts in the offseason. The Eagles discussed a trade with the Broncos, but couldnt agree to a deal, so Bradford returned and played well in the preseason in new coach Doug Pedersons offense.

Bradford reunites with Pat Shurmur, Minnesotas tight ends coach. Shurmur was Philadelphias offensive coordinator in 2015 and Bradfords OC his rookie season with the Rams.

The Vikings won the NFC North last season and acquiring Bradford means they clearly think they will compete again. The Eagles were 7-9 last season and wouldve been in rebuilding mode in a division other than the weak NFC East. Trading Bradford allows them to develop Wentz sooner than expected.

How Marvel Designed Black Panther and Spider-Man"s Suits in Captain America: Civil War

How Captain America: Civil War Should Have Ended

Share.

These two superhero costumes were designed by committee. By Terri Schwartz

When Captain America: Civil War introduced Black Panther and Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it didn"t just offer new big screen depictions of T"Challa and Peter Parker -- it also gave audience-goers their first look at the MCU"s take on Black Panther and Spider-Man"s superhero suits. The first looks at Black Panther"s sleek vibranium costume and Spider-Man"s Tony Stark-gifted suit were highly anticipated, which is why it was a big group effort to make sure they were designed right.

Civil War costume designer Judianna Makovsky wasn"t tasked with designing these two high profile outfits alone; in fact, Marvel came to her with some fully formed ideas of what the studio wanted the designs to look like. Not only did they have to work within the third Captain America movie, but they also needed to work for Spider-Man and Black Panther"s upcoming standalone films.

"When you work with Marvel and there are all these other movies, you kind of have to collaborate with all these other films, or you know if it"s coming up and you don"t want to make too much of a statement for the next film so that they can do their own thing -- particularly, Black Panther," explained Makovsky to IGN. "So those kinds of costumes I work very closely with Marvel"s visual development team."

This was Makovsky"s second time developing costumes for a Marvel film after working on 2014"s Captain America: The Winter Soldier; looking forward, she"s also designing for Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 and the next two Avengers movies. Since she isn"t privy to much of Marvel"s big picture plans, she defers to the studio in these situations to guide her design choices so they fit into the larger tapestry being woven.

"Marvel knows what they want, and they know what the next films are, and I don"t," she said. "They kind of decide, with visual development and with me, which direction they"re going to go, which image from the comic is the one that they want to continue on. ...Sometimes they sketch it, sometimes I sketch it. It"s a very amorphous project."

Some design choices were simple: for instance, everyone at Marvel knew they wanted to go for a classic Spider-Man look in Civil War, and Head of Visual Development Ryan Meinerding came to Makovsky with a clear idea of how to produce that. Others were more challenging, and involved countless prototypes and trial and error.

The particular challenge with Civil War -- like with The Winter Soldier before it -- was that directors Joe and Anthony Russo want their films grounded in realism, and so the costumes need to be as well. While more "comic book-y" films offer Makovsky more freedom, it"s a bigger challenge to have them more reality-based.

A big helping hand in the design process is Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige. "The one thing I have to say about Marvel: they know what they want, and that is why these movies are so successful," Makovsky said. "Kevin Feige has a vision, and he really understands these comic books. He gets it. You can"t argue with that when there is a true vision there."

For situations like designing for Spider-Man and Black Panther, Makovsky not only turned to Feige and the Russos, but also the designers on the two upcoming standalone movies, 2017"s Spider-Man: Homecoming and 2018"s Black Panther.

"The directors for each different film, they have a true vision of how to translate that to their film, and also what kind of costumes they want. What is the palette? What is the tone?" said Makovsky. "These characters go from my movie to somebody else"s movie, or their character comes in my movie. Absolutely you collaborate with these other designers and the other films. It"s a very unusual concept. Other films -- when you"re not working for Marvel, it doesn"t work that way."

Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters on July 7, 2017, while Black Panther is due out on February 16, 2018. Marvel"s Captain America: Civil War arrives on Digital HD, Digital 3D and Disney Movies Anywhere on September 2nd, and on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD and on-demand on September 13th.

Lester Holt, Chris Wallace, Martha Raddatz, Anderson Cooper among presidential debate moderators

Lester Holt Says Goodbye to "Weekend TODAY"

Campaign 2016-Debate Moderators

In this Oct. 28, 2015, file photo, NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt arrives at the 9th Annual California Hall of Fame induction ceremonies at the California Museum, in Sacramento, Calif. Holt will moderate the first scheduled presidential debate on Sept. 26, 2016 with ABC"s Martha Raddatz, CNN"s Anderson Cooper and Fox News Channel"s Chris Wallace lined up for others. NEW YORK (AP) NBC News chief anchor Lester Holt will moderate the first scheduled presidential debate on Sept. 26, with ABC"s Martha Raddatz, CNN"s Anderson Cooper and Fox News Channel"s Chris Wallace lined up for others.

The Commission on Presidential Debates also said Friday that CBS News" Elaine Quijano will moderate the vice presidential debate between Republican Mike Pence and Democrat Tim Kaine on Oct 4..

The first and third debates between Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump will be question-and-answer sessions on six separate topics chosen by the moderators and revealed a week in advance. Wallace will moderate the third debate. Raddatz and Cooper will team up for the second session, a town hall-style meeting with half of the questions to be posed by audience members.

Each of the debates is scheduled for 90 minutes, with a 9 p.m. EDT start time. The other presidential debates will take place on Oct. 9 and 19.

Voters will get a different look: all of the presidential debate moderators will be general election rookies, although Raddatz did the 2012 vice presidential debate between Joe Biden and Paul Ryan. It will be the first time that the general election campaign"s much-anticipated first debate won"t be moderated by the now-retired Jim Lehrer of PBS since 1984.

The leadoff position is a coup for Holt, who took over as NBC "Nightly News" anchor last year for Brian Williams and kept the broadcast on top of the ratings.

The commission avoided potential political problems by not selecting Fox"s Megyn Kelly, whose tough questioning angered Trump in the first GOP candidates" debate last summer, and ABC"s George Stephanopoulos, who was a White House aide of Clinton"s husband, former President Bill Clinton.

Quijano is the freshest face. She"s an anchor and leads political coverage at CBSN, CBS" 24-hour streaming service, and anchors CBS" Sunday evening newscast.

Patriots" Rob Ninkovich suspended four games by NFL because of PED use

Patriots vs. Giants | Post Game Highlights | NFL

The NFL suspended New England Patriots defensive end Rob Ninkovich on Friday for the first four games of the regular season for violating the NFL"s policy on performance enhancing substances.

It is the latest blow to the Patriots, who will also be without quarterback Tom Brady the first four games as he serves a league-imposed suspension for his role in the Deflategate case.

Like Brady, Ninkovich will not be eligible to return to the Patriots" active roster until Oct. 3 following the team"s game against the Buffalo Bills.

The 32-year-old has not played this preseason after suffering a reported triceps injury during a joint training camp practice with the Saints on Aug. 9. He had returned to practice recently, but had only participated in light conditioning.

Ninkovich was a defensive captain in 2015 and had 52 tackles and 6 1/2 sacks.

More than his production, he has been New England"s ironman on defense, playing in 102 consecutive regular-season games. That is behind only Green Bay"s Julius Peppers and Indianapolis" Kendall Langford, who have both played in 128 straight games.

ChiefsCharles is still questionable for opener

Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles remains iffy for the season opener against the San Diego Chargers.Chiefs Coach Andy Reid said on a conference call with reporters Friday that Charles might need some more time to get himself back, though Reid did not rule him out of next weekend"s game.

Charles tore the ACL in his right knee in Week 5 last season. He has been working out for several weeks, though he did not participate in any of the Chiefs" preseason games.

Reid was more optimistic about safety Eric Berry and linebacker Tamba Hali.Berry did not report to training camp until last weekend after refusing to sign his franchise tender, while Hali is returning from surgery in February on his ailing knee.

Etc.

The right shoulder of New York Jets quarterback Bryce Petty escaped serious injury after he was sacked in Thursdays preseason game.An MRI exam on the second-year quarterback, who now has to wait to see if he survives final roster cuts, revealed no structural damage.Houston Texans Coach Bill O"Brien says that injured star J.J. Watt is feeling much better and that it looks decent for him to play in the season opener against Chicago on Sept. 11.Watt missed the entire preseason on the physically unable to perform list after having back surgery in July. Last year"s NFL Defensive Player of the Year has started every game in his five-year career. ...

Matt Bryant appears set for his eighth season as the Atlanta Falcons kicker after Shayne Graham was cut. After missing two preseason games with muscle tightness in his leg, Bryant returned to kick a 27-yard field goal and two extra points in Atlanta"s 17-15 preseason win over Jacksonville on Thursday night.Graham missed a 32-yard field goal Thursday night. Cleveland signed defensive lineman Stephen Paea, a 2011 second-round pick released earlier this week by the Washington Redskins.
