GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. -- Long lines at the polls could soon be a thing of the past. Twenty-four additional early voting locations will open Thursday morning.
Crews have been working all week to get the new locations ready.
Long-time poll worker, Jimmy Maness, spent Wednesday afternoon setting up20 different polling machines at Craft Recreation Center on Yanceyville Street.
"Each election has its own challenges," Maness explained. "But after 16 years working at the polls, you know how to adapt."
The Board of Elections has some measures in place to make sure these new sites stay secure.
"When we deliver the machines and set them up, we close these up and do tamper evidence seals," Elections Director, CharlieCollicut, said. "That way if someone were to tamper with the machines overnight the election workers would know because the seal would break."
They alsorecalibrate each machine every morning. This ensures the machine can read a voter"s touch.

Kevin Gates Goes To Jail For 180 Days! SENTENCED TO HALF A YEAR FOR KICKING GIRL IN THE FACE!"
Looks like Kevin Gates will be spending the holidays in jail.
The rapper has been sentenced to 180 days in jail after a jury found him guilty of misdemeanor batteryon Wednesday.The charges came from an August 2015 incident in which the 30-year-old rapper was filmed kicking a woman in the chest during his concert in Lakeland, Florida.
During his trial, Gates plead not guilty and insisted he was simply defending himself against an aggressive fan under Florida"s "Stand Your Ground" law, claiming the victim, Miranda Dixon, was trying to pull him off stage. When his attempts to get her to stop failed, he used necessary force to protect himself. His attorney Jose Baez even went as far as to claimGates" foot didnt actually touch Dixon, and that she was simply attempting to gain damages in an upcoming civil trial.
The jury, made up of six white women, didn"t buy it and found Gates guilty. The judge wasn"t on Gates" side, either, and rejected the state"s request for 60 days in jail, with one year of probation and mandatory anger management classes, opting instead to triple the sentence.

PHILADELPHIA After Joel Embiids NBA debut on Wednesday night, the Philadelphia 76ers center sat in the teams locker room next to Sonny Hill, a local legend. Hill, 80, grew up in the city and was longtime friends with Hall of Fame center Wilt Chamberlain. He now runs a league for amateur basketball players and serves as an executive adviser for the 76ers.
Since the franchise drafted Embiid with the third pick of the 2014 draft, Hill has helped mentor Embiid. Hill was there as Embiid worked through two surgeries on his right foot and missed his first two NBA seasons. And he was at the Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday when Embiid finally had a chance to play his first game.
Embiid, who grew up in Cameroon and only started playing basketball five years ago, had one of the most memorable performances in the franchises recent history. He finished with a team-high 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds in 22:45 during the 76ers 103-97 season-opening loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
He has a chance to be the most dominant big man in the game today, Hill told USA TODAY Sports. Quote me. Quote me.
The hometown fans were just as enthusiastic. They greeted Embiid with chants of MVP, MVP, MVP when he shot free throws in the second half. And with 9:47 remaining, they screamed Trust the Process, a reference to the term that former 76ers general manager Sam Hinkie used to describe the teams strategy of losing games to gain high draft picks who could help them in the future.
That was great, Embiid said. Thats my motto Trust the Process.

Embiid didnt have much problem offensively or defensively in his first regular season game since March 1, 2014 when he sustained a back injury during his freshman season at the University of Kansas. That June, he underwent surgery on his right foot. He had another operation on the same foot last August.
And so, its understandable that the 76ers are proceeding with caution. During the preseason, Embiid averaged 11.4 points and 6.0 rebounds in only 14.7 minutes per game. For now, the 76ers are restricting Embiid to 20 minutes per game in five, four-minute segments. They are also working with him on his footwork and his strength in the post.
We talked a lot about just trying to play slower, 76ers coach Brett Brown said. He thinks quick. His feet sometimes cant catch up with his mind. Hes in sort of real time where he can slow down a little bit. I hope that he did do that. He made some plays, and all of a sudden he really didnt look that nervous.
No, he didnt. He played like an NBA veteran, although he understands theres more to learn. Hes been a student of the game since he took up basketball after playing soccer and volleyball as a kid.
Justin Harden, Embiids high school coach at the Rock School in Gainesville, Florida, remembers Embiid watching DVDs and YouTube videos of NBA Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon. Like Embiid, Olajuwon grew up in Africa and didnt start playing basketball until later in life.
I dont know if h**l ever be Hakeem Olajuwon, Harden told USA TODAY Sports on Wednesday night. Thats a big, tall task for any person to try to live up to. But I think h**l have a good, solid career.

For the first time since 1945, the Chicago Cubs are heading to the World Series. Theyve been heavy favorites all year long, and now this squad has the opportunity to end the infamous curse that has plagued the north side of the Windy City since 1908.
Every year theres always someone who steps up and catches fire during the postseason. Remember last year when Daniel Murphy resembled Babe Ruth for the New York Mets? This year its Puerto Ricos own Javier Bez who has been the must-watch player of the playoffs.

The 23-year-old Bez has simply been outstanding this postseason with an eye-popping .342 batting average. Despite hitting just one home run, Bez still has a .542 slugging percentage this postseason for the Cubs. Thanks to Bezs efforts, the Cubs are 7-3 in their 10 playoff games with series clinching victories over the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers. Bez has registered at least one hit in eight of the 10 Cubs playoff games thus far.
Bez is in the final year of his rookie contract, and you can bet Cubs management wants to re-sign him after this season ends.
The Cubs may be slight favorites, but they know theyre in for a difficult series against the Cleveland Indians. The Indians, like the Cubs, also havent won a World Series in over 50 years. Bez and the Cubs will be taking on a very talented pitching staff in a grueling seven game series beginning Tuesday night.
He"s the most natural baseball player I"ve ever seen play the game. His instincts in game are just top notch. And that was another play go today that was huge. The first guy getting on, to make that play and turn that double play set such a tone for the game, Hendricks said.
Bez, along with pitcher Jon Lester, were named co-MVPs of the National League Championship Series.
Julian Robertson, founder of hedge fund Tiger Management, told CNBC Wednesday that he was bullish on the shares of Microsoft and Air Canada.
Robertson praised Microsoft"s management and cloud business, calling it a "great company." Tiger Management owned 403,000 Microsoft shares at the end of the second quarter, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.
He called Air Canada well run and "very cheap," noting that it was trading at just three and a half times earnings.
