"Empire" Ratings Fall To Low As Dolly Parton Movie Wins In Viewers; "Arrow" Hits Season Highs With Mega-Crossover

Dolly Parton - Jolene (HD) (Original)

The CW continued to fight the good fight in the ratings war with the third night of its mega-crossover Invasion saga resulting in the best numbers in a year forArrow (1.3/5), while the return of Empire (2.8/9) saw Foxs hip-hop blockbuster take a body blow to a new low and a rare second-place viewership finish courtesy of Dolly Parton.

Celebrating its 100th episode as well as being part of the team-up with Supergirl, The Flash and tonights Legends of Tomorrow, last nights Arrow aimed high and more than hit the target with am 86% rise among adults 18-49 from its last original of November 16. While down a tenth from last years crossover with Flash, last night is the best the Stephen Amell-led series has done in the demo since that last crossover back on December 2 last year. Viewershipwise, Arrow snagged a season-best audience of 3.52 million, which was steady with last years crossover. Hero to hero, last nights Arrow was down 13% in the demo from The Flash on November 29. Lead-out Frequency (0.3/1) didnt get an Invasion bump, staying the same as it last new show of two weeks ago.

Even though it was still the top show of the night among the 18-49s and Fox won the night in the demo with a 2.3/7, staying the same would have been a welcome relief for Empire. Back after its Thanksgiving break and heading toward its Season 3 winter finale, the blockbuster fell to a new series low with a drop of 10% from its November 16 show. That airing two weeks ago saw Empire rise 7% from its previous series low of November 9. No help came from lead-in Lethal Weapon (1.6/6), which was down a tenth from its last original.

NBC

Perhaps even more of a sting is that Empire was soundly beaten by the sequel of Dolly Partons Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love (1.7/6) in total viewers. Picking up from last years Parton movieCoat of Many Colors, the holiday special from the enduring country queen drew an audience of 11.5 million for its 9-11 PM airing. Head-to-head with Empire in the 9 PM hour, Circle of Love had a big jump on its rival with 11.9 million watching to the Fox dramas 7.82 million.

Down a tenth in the demo from the first NBC Parton movie of last year, which didnt face Empire, and down 11% in viewers, Circle of Love still has the distinction of being the first show on any other net to top the eyeballs on an original of the obviously declining Fox drama this season. Added to this years Christmas in Rockefeller Center (1.7/6), which was up 13% from last year, NBC won the night with 11.9 million viewers for its most watched non-Olympics Wednesday since January 9, 2008.

It was a full night of originals on both ABC and CBS last night with Survivor (1.9/7) and Designated Survivor (1.3/4) both steady with their last regular originals of November 16. The House of Moonves Criminal Minds (1.4/5) was even with its last original while Code Black (1.0/4) went up a tenth in its 10 PM slot.

The good news for the Disney-owned net came from Black-ish (1.8/6), with its 20% rise over its last pre-Thanksgiving original. Otherwise, there was no change for Modern Family (2.2/8) from its November 16 airing, while The Goldbergs (1.7/6) and Speechless (1.5/5) both fell two-tenths from two weeks ago.

Fantasy Football Injury Reaction: How Rob Gronkowski"s injury affects Malcolm Mitchell and the Patriots

Rob Gronkowski: 20 Facts You Probably Didn"t Know

Rob Gronkowski has appeared in eight games in 2016 for the New England Patriots, with only five of those being what one would consider to be impactful outings. According to Vic Carucci, Gronk will not play another down in the regular season for the Patriots (or your Fantasy team) this season.

If you"re the Gronkowski owner, this is devastating news. You spent a first- or second-round pick on a guy who gave you five good games, and if you managed to survive that, you"re now going to be without him in the playoffs. I"ll get to possible replacements for the remainder of the season, but first I wanted to discuss the impact on the rest of the Patriots.

Tom Brady has been decidedly un-Brady in his starts without Gronkowski. The quarterback has failed to reach 20 Fantasy points in nearly 60 percent of those starts. That probably doesn"t matter this week, because the Rams defense has been awful on the road. But in the Fantasy playoffs, Brady draws Baltimore in Week 14 and Denver on the road in Week 15. A week 16 matchup with the Jets is great, but you have to get there first. I would view Brady as a low end No. 1 for the rest of the season, and I"d be looking for a starter for Week 15 at least.

As for the pass-catchers in the offense, Martellus Bennett is the obvious beneficiary. But he is banged up and has actually been worse when Gronkowski has missed time. Bennett has always been a fast starter who has struggled late in the year, and I would have a hard time viewing him as any more than a borderline No. 1 tight end.

The player who has stepped up the past two weeks is receiver Malcolm Mitchell. Mitchell has more catches and yards in the past two weeks than he had from Week 1-10 combined. More importantly Mitchell looks like a legitimate red zone threat who Brady trusts. Mitchell (22 percent owned) is a must-add as a touchdown-dependent No. 3 WR.

I could also see a situation where this helps the pass-catching running back, if only there was one clear option. In the past two weeks, Dion Lewis has seen 10 targets on 30 pass routes. James White has run 46 routes and seen 10 targets as well. As long as both are this heavily involved, I"ll have a hard time getting excited about either. That being said, this gives me a bit more optimism about the Patriots expanding Lewis" role in the passing game. He"s the superior playmaker.

Gronkowski replacements

Vernon Davis (49 percent) would be a huge add if we get a similarly negative report about the shoulder of Jordan Reed. My biggest reservation is that Davis" opponent this week is the stingiest in the league against tight ends.

Vance McDonald (33 percent) This is easily my favorite target, and apparently Colin Kaepernick"s, too. McDonald has been very steady the past month and has a generous playoff schedule.

Ladarius Green (18 percent) There are reports that the Steelers want to get Green more involved. Green has been exceptionally efficient over his career, and the Steelers could use one more weapon. Green has the most upside but a floor that is almost non-existent.

Exciting Premise Revealed In "The Belko Experiment" Trailer

The Belko Experiment Official Trailer 1 (2017) - John Gallagher Jr. Movie

The teaser just got released for exciting new horror/thriller "The Belko Experiment" directed by Greg McLean and written by James Gunn. Office workers of Belko thought it was a normal day when metal doors come sliding down on all the exits of the high rise building in Bogota, Colombia and a voice on the PA system informs the employees that they must kill their co-workers or be killed themselves.

The office workers at the Belko Experiment end up engaging in a gory blood fest when they see that several employees" heads are suddenly chopped off by a mysterious force, according to Gizmodo. Temporary alliances are formed and friendships are forgotten in this b****y fight to the finish.

It is no secret the Belko Experiment borrows from Battle Royale, The Hunger Games and Office Space. Battle Royale is a Japanese movie where students are stuck in an island and they have no alternative but to kill each other until only one is left standing. The Hunger Games follows a similar premise but the participants are trained mercenaries. Office Space is a TV comedy series following a group of employees and their boss.

Greg McLean is no stranger in the horror genre as he previously directed Rogue, Wolf Creek and its sequel. James Gunn is also not new to horror movies as he previously wrote Dawn of the Dead, Scooby-Doo and its sequel. Their concept is not original but it is an exciting one that will surely please the average horror movie fan.

The Belko Experiment made its debut at the Toronto Film Festival last September but won"t be shown in theatres until March 17, 2017. The film has a star-studded cast according to IMDBincluding familiar faces like Michael Rooker, Tony Goldwyn, Mikaela Hoover, Sean Gunn, Adria Arjona, Josh Brener and Abraham Benrubi. This film ends up marking the fourth time star Michael Rooker and writer James Gunn have collaborated after Slither, Guardians of the Galaxy and Super.

Check out the teaser:

Ex-NFL player Joe McKnight killed in apparent road rage shooting

A friend of Joe McKnight remembers him after his killing

Joe McKnight, a star running back at the University of Southern California who went on to play for part of four seasons in the NFL, was shot and killed Thursday in a possible road rage shooting in his home state of Louisiana, authorities said.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff"s Office said the shooting happened shortly before 3 p.m. local time at a busy intersection in the New Orleans suburb of Terrytown.

WVUE reported that multiple witnesses sawa man in an Infiniti sedan pulled McKnight, 28, from his Audi and shot him multiple times after a verbal altercation. Witnesses said the shooter then waited for police to show up.

Jefferson Paris Sheriff Newell Normand identified the shooting suspect as Ronald Gasser, 54. The sheriff said Gasser and McKnight exchanged words after a traffic incident, but did not go into further detail.

Normand added that Gasser relinquished his weapon to officers, was taken into custody and was being questioned by police. It was not immediately clear what he would be charged with.

In 2009, McKnight rushed for over 1,000 yards in his senior season at USC. He was drafted by the New York Jets in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft and spent three seasons with the club before moving on to play two games for the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2014 season.

WVUE reported that McKnight had just completed his first season playing for the Canadian Football League"s Saskatchewan Rough Riders.

McKnight is the second NFL player this year to die as a result of a possible road-rage incident. Saints player Will Smith was killed in April.
