Sean McVay named Rams head coach

NFL News Jan 12, 2017 | Sean McVay youngest NFL Coach to Rams, Chargers to LA +Aaron Rodgers Day

Sean McVay has been namedas the next head coach of the Los Angeles Rams.

The Rams made the announcement via their Twitter account on thursday. mcvay previously served as the offensive coordinator of the Washington Redskins and is now the youngest head coach in NFL history at 30 years old.

Before venturing intothe NFL, McVay played collegiately at Miami (OH) University as a wide receiver. You can actually check out McVay"s high school recruiting profile in the embedment below.

Since then, McVay has enjoyed a meteoric ascentin the past decade. He broke into the NFL as a wide receivers coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2008, then spent a season coaching in the United Football League. He has spent the past seven seasons climbing the ranks on the Redskins coaching staff.

After working with Washington"stight ends for four seasons, McVay was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2014. He oversaw the development of Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins the past three years and helped him guide the NFL"s third ranked offense with an average of 403.4 yards per game in 2016.

McVay will now be asked to do the same with quarterback Jared Goff, last year"s first-overall draft pick, and the Rams. That"s no small task as Los Angeles" offense ranked dead last in the league by nearly 50 yards per game.

The Rams interviewed a total of nine candidates for their head-coaching job (including five offensive coordinators), according to NFL.com"s coaching tracker. McVay proved to be the most impressive of the bunch.

"The Bye Bye Man": Review

THE BYE BYE MAN New Trailer (Horror - 2017)

Dir: Stacy Title. US. 2016. 96mins

In The Bye Bye Man, there is nothing to fear except fear itself literally. Unfortunately, this pro forma horror movie doesnt do much to capitalize on its vaguely clever premise. Chronicling the self-destruction of three tight-knit college friends, director Stacy Title presents us with an unseen, evil spirit that can only wreak havoc on those who obsess over it. But any hopes of smart social commentary or unsettling psychological underpinnings are quickly shattered by a clichd screenplay and amateurish performances.

The Bye Bye Man is little more than a series of scenes of people walking into dark basements or peeking into doorways,

Opening January 13 in the us and the uk, this STX Entertainment project boasts scant star power Carrie-Anne Moss and Faye Dunaway have brief cameos while lead actress Cressida Bonas has some tabloid recognition as the former girlfriend of Prince Harry and even less buzz. The Bye Bye Man could gain some traction before another horror offering, Split, arrives next week, but dismissive reviews may dampen further interest.

At a Wisconsin university, childhood buddies Elliot (Douglas Smith) and John (Lucien Laviscount) have just bought a house off-campus where theyll live with Elliots beautiful girlfriend Sasha (Cressida Bonas). All three are very close, but once they uncover some disturbing writing inside the house referring to a mysterious Bye Bye Man, they begin to realise that simply by saying this persons name, theyve summoned him inside their minds. Soon, the characters begin experiencing increasingly paranoid hallucinations that convince them that they are about to die.

Based on a short story by Robert Damon Schneck, Jonathan Penners screenplay tries to derive suspense from Elliots nagging insecurity that Sasha has feelings for John, who is very flirtatious with her. Title (who directed the 1995 dark comedy The Last Supper) cant bring much tension to this romantic triangle, however, because none of the three characters is memorably drawn. Plus, the actors fail to create an impression: Smiths earnest Elliot, Laviscounts mildly cocky John and Bonas bland damsel-in-distress Sasha are so forgettable that theres no great drama or pathos in their slow descent into madness.

To be fair, The Bye Bye Man has a kernel of an interesting insight that the bogeymen we assume are out in the world arent nearly as terrifying as the imagined horrors we can create in our heads. The films titular menace is rarely seen, but he doesnt need to be: instead, he lets the characters annihilate themselves by tapping into their darkest fears and twisted desires. But knowing that they can only keep The Bye Bye Man at bay by not thinking about him or saying his name proves futile, as the trio discover that the more they try to resist letting him into their thoughts, the easier he enters their consciousness.

For these narrative ideas to really take hold, though, Title would need to create a gripping psychological thriller putting the horror in our minds just as The Bye Bye Man is doing to his prey. Alas, perfunctory jump scares and occasionally spooky music from the composing duo The Newton Brothers arent enough to enliven the films thematic undercurrents.

Working with what appears to be a low budget, Title can scare up a little atmosphere, especially when the hooded Bye Bye Man (played by Doug Jones) lurks in the corner of the room, unbeknownst to our freaked-out heroes. But after the supremely creepy haunted-house vibe of The Conjuring, The Bye Bye Man is little more than a series of scenes of people walking into dark basements or peeking into doorways, the sense of dread always too faint to really unnerve.

As brief glimmers of life, Moss and Dunaway are a relief from the otherwise dull cast. Moss plays a detective who starts to take these kids claims of being haunted by an invisible force seriously, while Dunaway flirts with camp as a spooky widow who may hold the key to The Bye Bye Mans origins. These two veterans possess real confidence and presence, and they make the films doomed romantic triangle feel even more childish and irrelevant by comparison.

Movie Review: Patriots Day

Live By Night, Patriot"s Day, The Bye Bye Man | Weekend Ticket

LionsgatePeter Berg"s Patriots Day is a true ensemble movie, marshaling the talents of many performers in the service of a multi-pronged narrative related with headlong purpose. The picture depicts the city of Boston as a community suddenly united by a surge of courage and resilience in the wake of an inexplicable horrorthe Boston Marathon bombing of April 15, 2013. To his substantial credit, director Berg, in dealing with this brutal attack, delivers a tense and tightly edited police procedural that never sinks to cheap emotional manipulation of the awful event at its center.

Mark Wahlberg stars (it"s his third Berg movie, following Deepwater Horizon and Lone Survivor), but unlike many of the film"s other characters, who represent real-life people, his scrappy police sergeant, Tommy Saunders, is an inventiona composite character who"s on hand to lead us from one key plot point to another. This might have seemed a lazy device if Boston-native Wahlberg didn"t make it work with his usual skill and likeability (and if his harried cop weren"t so ingratiatingly detailedSaunders has a drinking problem, job troubles, and a b*m leg to boot).

The picture begins with introductions to the characters we"ll be spending the next two hours with. Apart from Tommy and his steadfast wife (Michelle Monaghan), there"s a pair of affectionate newlyweds (Rachel Brosnahan and Christopher O"Shea), a veteran police sergeant (J.K. Simmons, deploying just enough of a Boston drawl to be persuasive), a sharp young Chinese entrepreneur (Jimmy O. Yang), and a pretty MIT student (Lana Condor) who has her eye on a smitten young cop (Jake Picking), who"s eying her right back.

Then we meet the bombers, Chechen immigrants and longtime U.S. residents Tamerlan Tsarnaev (Themo Melikidze) and his younger brother Dzhokar (an excellent Alex Wolff). Dzhokar is watching jihadi videos on a laptop in the small apartment Tamerlan shares with his wife Katherine (Melissa Benoist)an American who has converted to Islamand their little daughter. The atmosphere is grim, the three grownups inscrutable, and already scary.

Berg has no interest in offering rationalizations for the Tsarnaevs, but he doesn"t turn them into bloodthirsty clichs, either. Tamerlan, an aspiring boxer, is a hardcore Islamist fanatic; but UMass student Dzhokar is more complex, and puzzling: he"s a 19-year-old pothead with an iPod and an interest in cool cars, but he"s also a woozy, amoral murderer, building deadly pressure-cooker bombs with his brother and taking them out onto Boylston Street during the annual Boston Marathon to kill and mutilate as many onlookers as possible. (Three people lost their lives to the Tsarnaevs" twin bombs; some 260 were injured, many grievously. Afterward, Dzhokar tells his brother they should have tried to detonate their explosives at waist height in order to destroy even more lives.)

Berg stages the bombing vividlywe see the smoke, the blood, the writhing bodiesbut with welcome economy: he doesn"t linger on details of the carnage. He starts building tension with the arrival of an FBI contingent led by cool-headed agent Richard DesLauriers (Kevin Bacon, more than solid, as always). DesLauriers puts his squad of computer analysts right on the case analyzing an avalanche of digital footage that"s being harvested from surveillance cameras and on-the-scene cellphones. Soon the techs have pried images of the Tsarnaevs out of all this imagery, and the question for DesLauriers and Police Commissioner Ed Davis (John Goodman) and Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick (Michael Beach) becomes whether or not to release grainy photos of the two brothers to the media. When it becomes clear that the bombs were packed with shrapnel in order to cause maximum human damage, the go-ahead is quickly given.

As the movie races along, there are some terrific scenes, most memorable among them a long car-hijacking sequence that leads to a blazing shootout on a quiet residential street. As the governor shuts down the city ("That"s close to martial law," Commissioner Davis vainly protests), we watch a small army of cops and soldiers and snipers closing in on the surviving Tsarnaev brother, who"s hiding in a boat on a trailer in an old man"s back yard. After he"s seized and taken away, the story is capped by the arrival of a steely FBI interrogator (Khandi Alexander), who"s been brought in to confront Tamerlan"s defiant wife, a woman who in real life remains a mystery to this day.

the movie is an exciting piece of work, but it seems to me to have one substantial flaw. At the end, after all the pain and loss and heartbreak we"ve seen caused by the Boston bombers, we"re asked to accept the proposition that the best way to fight this sort of depraved violence is with "love." It seems a little late in the ongoing age of terror to still be entertaining such a fatuous idea.

From Montclair to the Moon: New Jersey School Renamed for Buzz Aldrin

Apollo 11 moonwalker Buzz Aldrin returned to the middle school that he attended in his hometown of Montclair, New Jersey, on Friday (Sept. 16) for a renaming ceremony in his honor.

"I am just so honored to have this school, the Buzz Aldrin Middle School, named after me," said Aldrin, addressing the hundreds of students, teachers and members of the Montclair community who turned out for the outdoor dedication ceremony. "It is one of the more unique honors I have received and it is particularly warming because it is here in my hometown."

Aldrin, who attended the former Mount Hebron Middle School that now bears his name, went on to graduate from Montclair High School in 1947 and the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, in 1951. [Buzz Aldrin, Apollo 11 Moonwalker, inPhotos(Gallery)]

After earning his doctorate in astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Aldrin was selected to be among NASA"s third group of astronauts in 1963. He demonstrated the first productive spacewalk on Gemini 12 in November 1966 and then became the first to land on the moon with Apollo 11 commander Neil Armstrong on July 20, 1969.

"I went to the moon and I am hoping some of you folks, if you want to, maybe spend the rest of your life I don"t know why you would want to leave Montclair spend the rest of your life on Mars," Aldrin said at the renaming ceremony.

Aldrin, who is now 86, credited the former Mount Hebron Middle School as a turning point in his life, where he gained his focus to pursue the academics that would lead to his successes later in life.

"I didn"t want to lag behind my two older sisters, who excelled well in their studies. I was monkeying around. Maybe I goofed off a little bit," Aldrin admitted. "When I got to the middle school, Mount Hebron Junior High, it led to a maturing and increased awareness where I learned the fellowship of guys and the competitive spirit and desire to win."

Among those who came out to congratulate Aldrin on the renaming were Buzz Aldrin Middle School principal Jill Sack, Paul Fishman, U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey and Bob Caggiano, a Mount Hebron alumnus and vice president of sales at Annin Flagmakers in Roseland, New Jersey, who presented the astronaut with an American flag that flew at Omaha Beach for the 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion of Normandy in 2014.

According to some NASA accounts, Annin produced the U.S. flag that Aldrin and Armstrong planted on the moon.

Montclair resident and CBS "Late Show" host Stephen Colbert also turned out to celebrate the school"s rechristening.

Buzz Aldrin Middle School is now the third public school to bear the Apollo 11 astronaut"s name. There is also an Aldrin Elementary School in Reston, Virginia, and a Buzz Aldrin Elementary School in Schaumburg, Illinois.

"But this town [Montclair] will continue to make the Buzz Aldrin Middle Schoolthe best school and make me proud," said Aldrin.

The decision to rename Mount Hebron Middle School for Aldrin was made by the Montclair Board of Education in October 2015. School officials retained the school"s old name by moving the original sign to the school"s auditorium.

Aldrin is the latest New Jersey-born astronaut to have a school named after him in the Garden State. The late Mercury astronaut Walter "Wally" Schirra, who was born in Hackensack, New Jersey, was honored with the naming of an elementary school in Old Bridge. And in May, twin astronauts Mark and Scott Kelly were honored in their hometown of West Orange when Pleasantdale Elementary School was renamed Kelly Elementary School.

Chelsea Manning, Who Is Actually A Genetic Male Named Bradley, May Be Freed By Obama

Video: Obama Heckled Over Chelsea Manning Sentencing

5416999

As the last 8 years have taught us, laws mean whatever the Democrats tell us they mean. Laws should apply only to the people who are out of favor with the left, and their friends should be immune. That pertains to both the laws of man and the laws of nature.

Cynthia McFadden, Kevin Monahan, William M. Arkin, and Tracy Connor, NBC News:

President Obama has put Chelsea Manning, the former Army intelligence analyst serving a 35-year sentence for leaking classified material, on his short list for a possible commutation, a Justice Department source told NBC News

Manning then known as Bradley was locked up in 2010 after swiping 700,000 military files and diplomatic cables and giving them to wikileaks

manning has been receiving hormone therapy at the Leavenworth military prison and is allowed to wear womens undergarments, but a military doctor recently refused to change her gender on her Army records.

Careful, Doc! If you doubt anthropogenic global warming, youre a science denier. But if you refuse to submit to the fiction that a genetic male is woman, youre a bigot.

I kinda hope Obama frees this traitor. Do it. What a perfect capper to the identity-politics nightmare of the past decade. You betrayed your country? Well, I guess we can let it slide. Its just not fair to lock you up, now that youve put on a wig and given yourself a girls name.

Plus, I assume that if Mr. Manning is freed, h**l have to pay for his own s*x change. Taxpayers wont have to foot the bill for his snippage. (Thats another thing I dont get: If hes already a she, then why does she need a s*x change? Why cant she just use her imagination about that too?)

Sure, the Trump people dont like me because I wont join the cult, but at least for the next four years I wont be expected to refer to this creep Manning as her and she. Those days are over. That way doesnt work.

Sorry if that triggers you, Bradley. Tough it out, sir.
