She kept writing songs for others, like Will You Love Me Tomorrow, a No. 1 hit in 1961 for the Shirelles. It wasnt until King released the album Tapestry in 1971 that she became a singing star herself. This month, the native New Yorker, 73, was among the recipients of one of the arts highestaccolades at the 38th Annual Kennedy Center Honors, airing Dec. 29on CBS.
