Lifetime"s Toni Braxton biopic Unbreak My Heart praised on Twitter

(REVIEW) Toni Braxton: Unbreak My Heart Movie | My Thoughts (RECAP)

It didn"t take long for celebrities and fans alike to come together to praise the much anticipated movie which premiered on Saturday night.

The TV film is based on Toni Braxton"s memoir Unbreak My Heart, and follows the singer through her divorce, financial woes, career ups and down, battle with lupus and caring for her family, including her autistic son.

Along with the movie, Lifetime also aired a documentary special titled Beyond the Headlines: Toni Braxton.

After writing her memoir, Toni, now 48, was approached by Lifetime to make it into a movie, which she would also end up producing.

Perhaps the most prominent figure to comment on the piece was famed recording artist and producer Russell Simmons, who thought it portrayed her beautifully.

"Proud of my friend @tonibraxton tuned in to #ToniBraxtonMovie right now. one of greatest voices were ever[sic] heard + such a remarkable woman," he tweeted.

Fans also got into the mix, with most of them giving it overwhelmingly positive feedback.

@Ario97One even went so far as to thank the network for choosing to pursue such a project.

"I have the utmost LOVE, RESPECT & ADMIRATION for this woman @tonibraxton! Thank you @lifetimetv for #ToniBraxtonMovie & #BeyondTheHeadlines"

Of course the acclaim wasn"t universal.

User @convo_girl was a little disappointed at the movie"s lack of gravitas .

Big fan:Perhaps the most prominent figure to comment on the piece was famed recording artist and producer Russell Simmons, who thought it portrayed her beautifully

"This biopic is not terrible. I just don"t feel it captures how huge #ToniBraxton was was during the 90"s. #UnbreakMyHeart"

Overall however, it seems the biopic"s praise was earned, and even served as a catharsis for Toni herself.

She recently spoke with InStyle, about how the film allowed her to clarify her life and reconnect with fans.

Ups and downs: The singer, whose battle with lupus will also be included in the Lifetime movie, attended a Lupus LA event in Los Angeles in June

"I had to sit in silence about what happened and no one got to hear or see my side." she told the publication, in reference to her bankruptcy and family drama at the time.

Beyond the movie, Toni has also been involved in other television projects recently.

The R&B icon also starred with her four sisters on WeTV reality show Braxton Family Values. The show follows the lives of the hitmaker and her four sisters Tamar, Towanda, Trina and Traci, as well as their mother Miss E.
