During last night"s episoderead IGN"s review of "The Door" hereHodor is killed when protecting Bran from a horde of White Walkers, and he had just one job in keeping them away:to "hold the door."

The aforementioned writer for VentrellaQuest correctly guessed this revelation when speaking on an elevator with Martin, saying, "I finally figured out why you have a character named Hodor....Iwas thinking about your comment about wanting to be an elevator operator. Its clear to me now that "Hodor" is short for "Hold the door"." In response, Martin laughed and replied, "You dont know how close to the truth you are!"

Back in February of 2013, Nairn foretold the death of his character in an interview with Flicks and the City when asked how he"d like to have Hodor die. "I would like to die fighting an army of White Walkers," he said. You can check out his full response at the 4:11 mark in the video below.

Interestingly enough, the first words ever said to Hodor on the show were "Help Bran down the hall" - if you"ve seen last night"s episode, that now comes with some cruel significance
