Bernie Sanders really wants another debate before the California primary on June 7. First, he wanted to debate Democratic primary opponent Hillary Clinton. Then, when she said thanks-but-no-thanks, he challenged presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump, saying the two should face off on live television.
Last night on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" Trump seemed to accept that challenge. And theprospect of an actual, real-life Trump-Sanders debate seemed possible, if only for a few hours.
But the Trump campaignpoured some cold water on the idea on Thursday, telling various reporters that it was more of a joke than anything. So who knows.
But with the prospect of that New Yorkiest of New York debates (in California) beginning to slip away, The Fix decided to give the people what they want and simulate an actual Trump-Sanders debate. While we may never know what such adebate would really look like, we can be sure it would have gotten a positively "yuge" television audience.
Donald Trump"s campaign now says the two candidates are unlikely to debate each other before the June 7 California primary. But what if they did? (Peter Stevenson/The Washington Post)
