Your fan fiction about Channing Tatum as a merman is swimming closer to reality.

The actor is set to star in a gender-swapped remake of Splash, the 1984 hit starring Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah, Deadline reports. Tatum will pay Hannahs role, while actress Jillian Bell (Workaholics) will play Hankss. The remake was also reportedly pitched by Bell, who recently worked with Tatum in 22 Jump Street.

The original Splash, directed by Ron Howard, was a runaway hit, providing breakout roles for both Hanks and Hannah. The script, co-penned by Lowell Ganz, Babaloo Mandel, Bruce Jay Friedman, and Brian Grazer, was nominated for a best-original-screenplay Oscar.

Newcomer Marja-Lewis Ryan will pen the script for the remake. Howard and Grazer are on board to produce, alongside Tatum.

If history decides to repeat itself, the remake could also give Bell a major career boost. The actress has turned in a number of solid performances in shows like Workaholics and Idiotsitter, and shes also set to appear in upcoming comedies Office Christmas Party and Rock That Body, which also stars Scarlett Johansson and Kate McKinnon.

Tatum, meanwhile, will get another high-profile comedic role under his belt. And h**l presumably also be mostly shirtless in the upcoming remake, a skill at which hes proven to be very, very adept.
