Power Outage In Atlanta Causes Worldwide Delta Meltdown

News Wrap: Delta computer outage cancels flights; 67 killed in Pakistan suicide bombing

Delta Airlines flights were grounded worldwide today following an early morning power outage in Atlanta, where the airline"s operations are headquartered. Delta says power outage happened around 2:30 a.m., and while flights that were in progress were able to reach their destinations, the airline was forced to halt flights throughout the morning, and expects cancellations and delays to continue.

Limited departures resumed at 8:40 a.m., but Delta is still warning travelers to expect delays or cancellations today. Some travelers arriving at airports this morning had no idea about the meltdown until they beheld the smoldering shitshow awaiting them at their respective Delta terminals, where large crowds stared forlornly at airport screens that were incorrectly showing flights on time.

Delta is issuing travel waivers for flights that are cancelled or "significantly" delayed; details here. And the airline is continuing to update the situation here.
