Air Force RB Jacobi Owens Comments On Players Sitting Out Bowl Games

UNDATED (AP) Ranked teams are just 4-5 so far in the 2016-17 bowl schedule following a win by No. 16 Stanford and a loss by No. 24 Nebraska.

Solomon Thomas sacked Mitch Trubisky on a potential game-tying, two-point conversion try with 25 seconds left to secure Stanfords 25-23 triumph over North Carolina in the Sun Bowl at El Paso.

Bryce Love ran for 119 yards and grabbed a 49-yard touchdown pass while starting in place of Cardinal tailback Christian McCaffrey, who skipped the bowl game after entering the NFL draft.

Dallas Lloyd brought back his second interception of the game 19 yards for a touchdown that put Stanford ahead, 22-17.

Joshua Dobbs accounted for 409 total yards and four touchdowns to lead Tennessee to a 38-24 triumph over the Cornhuskers in the Music City Bowl. Dobbs threw for 291 yards and a TD and ran for 118 yards and three scores as the Volunteers beat a Big Ten team in a bowl for a third straight year.

Nebraska quarterback Ryker Fyfe threw two TD passes to Brandon Reilly and ran for a 9-yard TD with 10:02 left in the fourth to pull the Cornhuskers within 31-24.

In Fridays other bowl action:

Nick Chubb ran for 142 yards and a touchdown to power Georgia past tcu 31-23 in the liberty bowl and give the Bulldogs a bowl victory for the third straight year.

Georgia finished 8-5. The Dawgs restored some pride to the Southeastern Conference. The SEC had entered the day with a 1-4 bowl record, a major step back for a league that had gone 9-2 in bowl games last year to set a record for bowl victories.

The Bulldogs had won the Belk Bowl two seasons ago and the TaxSlayer Bowl last year. Georgias latest bowl victory sent TCU to only its third losing year in Gary Pattersons 16 full seasons as coach. TCU finished 6-7.

In other bowls:

Stanford held off North Carolina 25-23 to win the Sun Bowl. Bryce Love took over for the absent Christian McCaffrey in the Stanford backfield, running for 119 yards and catching a 49-yard touchdown pass for the Cardinal.

Stanford held on after North Carolina pulled within two with 25 seconds left on Mitch Trubiskys 2-yard pass to Bug Howard, sacking Trubisky on the 2-point conversion try.

McCaffrey skipped the bowl game to focus on his NFL career. Stanford finished 10-3. The Tar Heels wound up 8-5.

The best matchup takes place this evening in Miami Gardens, Florida, as The 10-2 Michigan Wolverines tangle with the 9-3 Florida State Seminoles.

This is Michigans first game since losing to Ohio State in double overtime. The Wolverines, who are ranked sixth by the AP, are looking to send their senior-dominated roster out with a victory in a major bowl game. The Seminoles, who are 10th in the AP poll, are looking to win their first bowl game since winning the national championship at the end of the 2013 season, as well as their fifth consecutive season of at least 10 wins.
