Apple CEO Tim Cook: Optimism For The Future | Mad Money | CNBC
Hejtmanek acknowledged that smartphones were turning the general population into amateur shutterbugs, but downplayed the effect on high-end manufacturers like Hasselblad.
"This is a real camera for photography enthusiasts, so while you can with a camera phone shoot some great pictures, there are a lot of limitations to that," Hejtmanek told CNBC in New York this week. "You have a sensor in [the X1D] that is many many times larger than a camera phone. The difference is staggering."
Most digital single lens cameras, arguably the most affordable and popular devices on the market, cost only several hundred dollars. Yet they pale in comparison pricewise to the X1D.
"For someone that would have bought a high-end DSLR ... this camera is a huge step up in technology but only a small step in the price," Hejtmanek said. "It"s much more camera for the dollar."
The X1D makes medium-term photography much more accessible to a broader market of photography enthusiasts [including] high-end amateurs and enthusiasts who really care about image quality, and there are a lot of them out there," he added.
That said, would most of them be willing to pony up $9,000 for a camera especially one whose 45-millimeter and 90-millimeter lenses cost more than $2,000 a piece?
"It"s not for everyone," Hejtmanek said. "If someone says, "Wow, that"s such an expensive camera," that"s the same person who would say the Mercedes-Benz is such an expensive car, why would anyone buy one of those?"

With a 13-4 City Council vote, last week Philadelphia became the first major city to pass a 1.5 cent per ounce tax on sugary drinks. While its a win for Mayor James Kenney, some city residents and business owners are outraged.
I really dont like it. Im disappointed in it, one Philadelphia resident told Yahoo Finances Seana Smith in the video above. I think it"s incredibly regressive, and I think the population it"s purported to aid and help is exactly the population it"s going to negatively affect.
The tax is expected to generate $91 million in the first year and up to $386 million over five years. Some of the money will be earmarked for improving early education and fixing neglected infrastructure such as parks and recreation facilities in the inner city.
But heres what Yahoo Finance found out when talking to Philadelphia residents: Theyre upset that all of the money is not being allocated to pre-K and parks and recreation facilities. During final negotiations with council members, it was determined that some of the money generated from the tax will go to the city"s general fund and other expenditures including retrials for juveniles.
A Philadelphia resident told Yahoo Finance that he doesnt agree with how the tax will be spent, calling City Council"s decision a "disgrace." Another critic of the tax said it will have a negative impact on the restaurant industry and cause sales to slow.
Heres why: People who buy sugary drinks in the city of Brotherly Love will have to pay an additional 18 cents in tax for each 12-ounce can of soda and $2.16 in tax for each 12-pack purchased.
The new tax will affect thousands of beveragesessentially anything that contains either artificial sweetener or sugar. Drinks that will not be taxed are those that are more than 50% juice or milk.
Philadelphia will start collecting the tax January 1.

The Kern County Sheriff"s Office confirms that five people were arrested Thursday in connection with a burglary at the Fire Station in Lake Isabella.
The following is a release from the Kern County Sheriff"s Office:
Within the last month, Kern County Fire Department Fire Station 72 in Lake Isabella was burglarized on three separate occasions, and over $15,000 worth of county equipment and personal items were stolen.
Because of the recent burglaries, deputies from the Sheriffs Office Kern Valley Substation began an investigation into the burglaries based on information developed during other investigations. As a result, deputies developed information that stolen property from the fire station was at the Mountain View Trailer Park in the 4400 block of Lake Isabella Blvd.
Early this morning, at about 2:47 am, deputies began a foot patrol in the area of the trailer park. While on foot patrol deputies contacted 44 year old Donald Snyder sitting in a vehicle with the interior light on. Deputies then went to Snyders trailer inside the park where they contacted his girlfriend, 32 year old Chelsea Blair, who was on probation and subject to search. Deputies searched the property and located most of the items reported stolen from Fire Station 72, including items that had not yet been reported stolen including an AED device and personal property.
Deputies also contacted 28 year old Harvey Mahoney and 35 year old Adrian Acuna and determined they were in possession of stolen items from Fire Station 72, along with about pound of methamphetamine and paraphernalia. Mahoney also had several warrants for his arrest.
During the investigation deputies were able to determine additional stolen property was possibly at the home of 44 year old Michael Deatherage in the 3000 block of c*x Rd. in Lake Isabella. Deputies responded to that home and contacted 21 year old Alizabeth Haworth, who was also on probation and subject to search. Deputies searched that residence and located a stolen motorcycle, a loaded rifle, and stolen property belonging to the US Forest Service which had not yet been reported stolen. Haworth was also under the influence of a controlled substance.
Deatherage was not at his home, but there is probable cause to arrest him for being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm, possession of stolen property, and being an ex-felon in possession of ammunition.
The suspects were arrested and booked into the Sheriffs Office Central Receiving Facility for their listed charges:
Donald Snyder; burglary, possession of stolen property, possession of paraphernalia, and a misdemeanor warrant
Chelsea Blair; possession of stolen property and possession of paraphernalia
Harvey Mahoney; possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of stolen property, possession of paraphernalia, and one felony and one misdemeanor warrant
Adrian Acuna; possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of stolen property, possession of paraphernalia, and a misdemeanor warrant
Alizabeth Haworth; possession of a controlled substance, possession of a loaded firearm while in possession of a controlled substance, under the influence of a controlled substance, and under the influence of a controlled substance while in possession of a loaded firearm
