5:35 PM PST 11/20/2016 by Caitlin Greenho
The Chainsmokers hit the American Music Awards stage for the first time Sunday night, performing their hit song "Closer" with Halsey and special guest drummer Travis Barker of Blink-182. The performance featured a crew of backup dancers, dramatic neon light graphics and an array of fireworks.
Drew Taggart and Alex Pall make up the "frat boy" DJ group that has risen to popularity in the last year. 2016 marks their first AMA nomination, and they scored a total of four noms, tying with Beyonce. They were nominated for new artist of the year, collaboration of the year, favorite duo or group pop/rock and favorite artist electronic dance music.
Twenty-two-year-old singer-songwriter Halsey also made her AMA performance debut. Halsey has seen a rapid two-year rise from unknown YouTuber to featured voice on one of 2016"s biggest songs. She recently told the tale of her success at the Billboard Touring Conference.

Green Bay Packers-Washington Redskins Sunday Night Football Preview
KICKOFF: Sunday, 8:30 p.m. ET, FedExField, Landover, Md. TV: NBC, Al Michaels, Cris Collinsworth, Michele Tafoya.
SERIES HISTORY: 33rd regular-season meeting. Packers lead series, 18-13-1. The teams are meeting again at Washington"s FedEx Field after Green Bay rallied for a 35-18 win over the Redskins in the wild-card round of the playoffs Jan. 10. The Packers have won two straight and six of the last seven games against Washington, going back to 2001. The Redskins" only victory in that stretch came in 2010 -- a 16-13 overtime win at home. The Packers won two of the teams" three postseason matchups, highlighted by a 21-6 triumph in the 1936 NFL Championship at New York when the Redskins were in Boston.
GAMEDATE: 11/20/16
KEYS TO THE GAME:
The Packers potentially could go into the Sunday night game at the Washington Redskins without two key starters on their offensive line: right guard T.J. Lang and left tackle David Bakhtiari, who suffered foot and knee injuries in the last contest. And, there"s no telling whether Green Bay will be able to mount any semblance of a ground game after doing little of it last time out as the Titans raced out to a 21-0 lead.
James Starks is considered healthy again and may get more touches than the seven carries he had against the Titans. Plus, Green Bay added some depth Wednesday by claiming fourth-year pro Christine Michael off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks. Yet, the expectations are being tempered for what Michael might be able to offer Sunday on such a quick turnaround.
Those uncertainties in the backfield portend another busy night of throwing for Aaron Rodgers, who has passed the football 188 times in the last four games. If he can play keepaway from Josh Norman, the All-Pro cornerback formerly of the Carolina Panthers, a mostly suspect Redskins secondary should allow Rodgers to have success through the air.
Rodgers" counterpart, Kirk Cousins, has played well of late and could shred a struggling Packers defense with a potent group of pass catchers. Besides having to deal with productive tight ends Jordan Reed and Vernon Davis, the Packers may have to try to contain three big-play wide receivers in DeSean Jackson, Jamison Crowder and Pierre Garcon. The speedy Jackson"s status is up in the air because of a shoulder injury that kept him out of Washington"s last game.
Green Bay also must pay close attention to versatile running back Chris Thompson. He had eight catches for 89 yards in eight targets out of the backfield in the Packers" win at Washington in the first round of the playoffs in January. Green Bay sacked Cousins six times in that game. However, its pass rush has been nonexistent in recent weeks, though the possible return of outside linebacker Clay Matthews after a three-game absence (hamstring) could provide a lift.
MATCHUPS TO WATCH:
--Redskins TE Jordan Reed vs. Packers ILB Blake Martinez. Someone has to try to take Reed out of his game. He had just two catches against Minnesota on four targets, but that"s an anomaly. When healthy Reed is a matchup nightmare for any linebacker or safety. The key: Be physical with him before he gets into space. Maybe Martinez can give Reed problems there. But the Packers also remember Reed caught nine passes for 120 yards against them in last year"s wild card game.
--Packers WR Jordy Nelson vs. Redskins CB Josh Norman. Norman"s physicality can give any receiver problems. But Nelson has a knack for finding space and Rodgers has a knack for finding him. Nelson has 50 catches this season. Expect Green Bay to move Nelson around to keep him from Norman all the time. Minnesota used that tactic last week with Stefon Diggs to great effect. But Nelson also is not fully recovered from his torn ACL last season.
PLAYER SPOTLIGHT:
RB James Starks. The return of the seventh-year pro to game action last Sunday after a four-game absence had mixed results. Coming off knee surgery, Starks reached the end zone on an impressive 13-yard catch-and-run play as the Packers tried to rally from a huge deficit before falling 47-25 at the Tennessee Titans. However, Starks carried the football only seven times and gained just 33 yards as the team"s lead back. Even with the news late Wednesday that the Packers claimed fourth-year player Christine Michael off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks, the expectation is Green Bay will need Starks to play a bigger role Sunday night at the Washington Redskins to give a lift to its beleaguered rushing attack.
INJURY REPORT:
Green Bay -- Out: G T.J. Lang (foot), CB Damarious Randall (groin), LB Jake Ryan (ankle), C J.C. Tretter (knee). Questionable: TE Jared Cook (ankle), LB Clay Matthews (hamstring).
Washington -- Questionable: WR DeSean Jackson (shoulder), T Morgan Moses (ankle), LS Nick Sundberg (back).
FAST FACTS:
The Packers have dropped three in a row and four of their last five to tumble to 4-5.
Green Bay"s pass defense ranks 29th in opponent passer rating. Last week at Tennessee, the Titans threw five touchdown passes and only seven incompletions.
Redskins TE Vernon Davis has 382 receiving yards in nine games -- just 13 yards shy of his total for 15 games last season with the Broncos and 49ers.
Redskins K Dustin Hopkins became the 29th player in Redskins history to reach 200 points with his four field goals last Sunday vs. Minnesota. Hopkins ranks 10th in field goals made for Washington in just 24 games.
Redskins WR Pierre Garcon ranks 11th in franchise history in receiving yards (3,985) after his 81-yard performance Sunday vs. Minnesota.
PREDICTION:
After back-to-back home losses to Pittsburgh and Dallas to open the season, the Redskins have won five of seven. All but one of those games has been decided by a TD or less, and this one figures to follow that trend.
Only in Cleveland: The Cleveland Browns since their return to the NFL
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Confession time: When it comes to Cleveland Browns quarterbacks, I don"t know what I want.
Actually, I do know.
I want the same thing you do, and I"m not talking about the elusive "Franchise" quarterback.
When it comes to Browns quarterbacks, finding a combination of competence and durability would be a reason for a standing ovation.
Instead, I"ll stay seated while writing about the Browns 24-9 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
This was the 10th time that Steeler quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has won a game at FirstEnergy Stadium.
That ties former Brown Derek Anderson for the most wins by a quarterback in this stadium, where the expansion era franchise first took the field in 1999. Ex-Browns quarterback Tim Couch is next with nine victories at FirstEnergy.
This is not about replaying how the Browns passed up Roethlisberger in favor of Kellen Winslow in the 2003 draft.
It is to say that I have been writing about wanting to see more of Cody Kessler.
Well, I did in Sunday"s loss.
Sigh...
Kessler started, but was knocked out of the game late in the third quarter with what probably is a concussion. If so, this was the second concussion of the season for the rookie quarterback.
Kessler has started eight games this season. Three times he has failed to survive four quarters because he was injured.
That"s not a good sign, as Kessler can"t stay on the field.
THEN THERE"S PERFORMANCE
Long before his concussion late in the third quarter, this was truly an awful game for Kessler.
It was harder to know if the rookie quarterback was shaken more by the frigid, wind-whipping, teeth-rattling weather -- or the aggressive Steeler defense.
But his decision making was SOOO ... SLOW ... it was painful to watch.
This is not about being impatient with a rookie. Some of the mistakes were from inexperience.
But he took three sacks when he simply held on to the ball for too long.
He seemed confused by the defenses. When his primary receiver was covered, Kessler had problems knowing where else he wanted to throw the ball.
He was 7-of-14 passing for 128 yards. He had an interception. He was sacked four times, and three were on him because he held the ball for so long.
Being the quarterback on the winless Browns may seem like a hopeless assignment.
But I"m grading on a curve, just looking for progress from Kessler.
In the last three games, he has been sacked nine times. With him on the field, the offense has scored 23 points in a little over nine quarters.
I don"t know what to say about Kessler, other than his lack of arm strength was very apparent on this wind-whipped day.
But most alarming, his early season poise seemed missing.
SO NOW WHAT?
When it comes to Browns quarterbacks, I"m just confused.
You can say it"s been like that for me for years, and you"d be right.
Josh McCown has some good and bad moments, but he also can"t stay healthy. He suffered a broken bone in his shoulder in each of the last two seasons.
He"s also 37 years old.
Over the weekend, I wrote that I have no real interest in watching Robert Griffin III play.
But Griffin is working to come back from the shoulder injury he suffered in the opener.
The way this season is going, the Browns may need him to start.
Rookie Kevin Hogan better stay ready, too.
At this point in the 0-11 season, I have no strong opinions on who should start at quarterback for the Browns.
ESPN Mike & Mike Today 11/21/2016 - Do Cleveland Browns have a coherent rebuilding plan?
Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam has been subpoenaed to appear in a videotaped deposition in a civil lawsuit against his family business in Tennessee.
Haslam, CEO of the Pilot Flying J truck-stop chain, is scheduled to appear at the deposition in Knoxville, Tenn., on Dec. 13 to answer questions by lawyers involved in the lawsuit filed over diesel fuel rebate fraud.
The business is owned by the family of Haslam and his brother, Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam. A court notice was filed Friday in Franklin County, Ohio, for Jimmy Haslam to appear at the deposition.
The lawsuit was filed by companies that declined to participate in an $85 million settlement between Pilot Flying J and 5,500 trucking companies. Pilot also paid a $92 million federal penalty to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Haslam has denied any knowledge of the fraud and has not been charged. The company"s board of directors has admitted legal responsibility for the fraud.
In April 2013, the FBI and IRS agents raided Pilot"s corporate headquarters in Knoxville and seized company records.
Haslam bought the Browns for just over $1 billion in 2012.
CBS 60 Minutes scored the first televised interview with president-elect Donald J. Trump Sunday night, but the telecast was delayed nearly half an hour in several large markets (including New York, Washington D.C., and Chicago), making Nielsens preliminary numbers subject to at least some adjustment in the finals. The initial results put the interview at a 3.2 rating in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and 18.77 million viewers. In the more-relevant-for-60 Minutes news demographic of 25-54, it drew a 4.3 rating.
NBCs Sunday Night Football didnt compete directly with 60 Minutes, but it did draw more than double the demo audience (a 6.5 rating) and 19.24 million viewers, from 8:30-11 p.m. (The game didnt end until around 11:45 p.m. on the East Coast.) The numbers, the best SNF ratings since the first week of the season, are at least a little encouraging for broadcast execs wondering whether NFL ratings would spend the rest of the season in a trough.
There are myriad reasons NFL ratings have been down from 2015, though primetime has born the brunt of the ratings point drops: Election fever, awful games, the drying of up the daily fantasy sports well. NBC finally caught a break from at least two of those factors Sunday night with a post-election Seahawks-Patriots match-up that delivered a tight game and a reversal of the result of the 2015 Super Bowl.
On Fox, football overrun (which drew 24.56 million viewers from 7-7:30 p.m. and an 8.1 demo rating) helped boost The Simpsons at 8 p.m. to a 3.1 demo rating and 7.13 million total viewers. Son of Zorn came in with a 1.6 and 3.67 million viewers. Family Guy matched its lead-in in the demo and brought in 3.57 million viewers. The Last Man on Earth drew a 1.1 and 2.63 million viewers.
On ABC, Once Upon a Time stayed low with a 0.9 in the demo and 3.37 million viewers. Secrets and Lies pulled in a 0.7 and 3.1 million viewers. Quantico matched that demo and drew an audience of 2.7 million.
CBS other three Sunday series are also subject to revision. NCIS: Los Angeles drew a 1.9 and 13.39 million viewers; Madam Secretary brought in a 1.1 and 9.38 million viewers, and Elementary came in with a 0.7 and 5.9 million viewers.
Earlier this weekend in Nielsens preliminary ratings
Friday
On CBS, MacGyver brought in a 1.1 in the demo and 7.7 million viewers. Hawaii Five-0 had a bigger week than usual with a 1.4 and 9.81 million viewers. Blue Bloods came in with a 1.3 and 10.18 million viewers.
On ABC, Last Man Standing tied MacGyver in the demo, but brought in 6.28 million viewers. Dr. Ken followed with a 0.9 and 4.44 million viewers. Shark Tank drew a 1.2 and 5.4 million viewers, and 20/20 weighed in with a 1.1 and 5.21 million viewers.
Likewise in the 8 oclock hour, Foxs Hells Kitchen tied with the MacGyver demo rating, but with only 3.31 million viewers. The Exorcist slid again to a 0.6 in the demo and 1.65 million viewers.
NBCs Caught on Camera did its now-usual 0.6 in the demo, with a total audience of 2.72 million viewers. Dateline brought in a 1.0 and 4.71 million viewers.
The CWs The Vampire Diaries held steady with a 0.4 and 1.02 million viewers. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend came in with a 0.2 and 550,000 viewers.
Saturday
The Dave Chappelle-hosted SNL episode Saturday night garnered the best metered market overnight ratings of the season for the show, with a 6.2 household rating and a 3.9 in the demo. That was also the best overnight rating for the show since Jimmy Fallon hosted on Dec. 211, 2013, with Justin Timberlake as musical guest.
The sci-fi vision of a connected home is quickly becoming a reality: both Amazon and Google have launched smart assistants, with an Apple offering based on the companys HomeKit system is rumoured to be on the way.
These products are designed to act as standalone hubs for your digital life.Voice activation systems allow users to ask questions, perform tasks control their IoT appliances, without even having to touch their phones.
We look at how the three major smart assistant products compare to each other, based on the information weve currently got. We"ll be updating this article as and when we know more so please stay tuned...
14/11/16:Amazon has launched its new music streaming service, Music Unlimited, in the UK as a competitor to rivals like Apple Music and Spotify.
It offers around 40 million songs and over 1,000 playlists on demand to subscribers in the UK, Germany and Austria, after also launching in the US last month.
Prime customers can use the service for 7.99 a month, while non-Prime members will pay the full price of 9.99. However, a second, cheaper tier, is also available. Tied to the Echo and Echo Dot, users can choose to pay a 3.99 monthly subscription, but they would have to upgrade to listen to music on more devices.
"We"ve been thrilled with customer reaction to the launch of Amazon Music Unlimited in the US last month and we"re excited to quickly bring the service to customers in the UK,"said Steve Boom, vice president of Amazon Music. "Starting today, Amazon Music Unlimited offers our UK customers playlists and stations curated by our music experts in the UK, featuring British and international artists."
Although Amazon Echo users may already be using Spotify, Amazon claims its own music service offers far more integration with the Alexa voice assistant. In one example Amazon gave, voice commands like "Alexa, play the song that goes, "I was doing just fine before I met you"", Alexa will play "Closer" by The Chainsmokers.
Users can of course play specific genres of music, artists, music from certain time periods and tell Alexa to put on a random shuffle of songs. Amazon has not yet allowed other streaming services to "teach" these functions to Alexa, and will hope its more sophisticated user experience can draw customers to the service.
14/10/16:Amazon Music Unlimited, the company"s challenge to Spotify and Apple Music, has a cheaper tier specifically designed for its Echo speaker.
Unlimited will include tens of millions of songs and let users search for a song by its lyrics, and will cost $9.99.
But Amazon also promised a second tier of pricing for those who own its Wi-Fi speaker, Echo.
Echo users will be able to download a cheaper $3.99 version of the service that works exclusively on Amazons speaker. This music service will be perfectly integrated into Echo, enabling users to ask Amazons virtual assistant Alexa to play a particular artist or song.
Amazon started investing in music services in 2008, launching MP3, an alternative to iTunes, where users could purchase the songs of artists they liked. However, the service never appeared to reach the peak of iTunes, and Amazon now seems to be following the most recent music streaming service trend.
The Telegraph reported that in 2015 the number of people using streaming services rose from 41 million to 68 million.
Amazon Music Unlimited could arrive in Europe later this year and should be first introduced in the UK, Germany and Austria.
04/09/16:First announced at the company"s developer conference earlier in the year, Google has finally taken the wraps off Google Home, its answer to the Amazon Echo.
Built around the company"s new Google Assistant, Google Home is designed to answer questions and perform tasks based on verbal interactions. As expected, it performs all the usual smart assistant functions, such as streaming music, telling you about traffic and the weather and controlling all of your smart home stuff.
Unlike rivals, however, it also interfaces with the whole suite of Google apps, meaning it can tell you what you"ve got in your Google Calendar, give you directions and cue up videos on your Chromecast. It can even play music from YouTube and stream to Chromecast Audio.
On top of that, it does anything you"d expect Google search to do, which includes providing information about local businesses, answers to questions culled from Google"s store of over 70 billion facts and featured snippets of content from other websites.
Design-wise, it looks like a plug-in air freshener more than anything else. It"s got a wide, rounded base, tapering slightly to end in a flat, sloping top. The top acts as a capacative touchpad through which users can play and pause content, activate the Assistant and control the unit"s volume.
Just like the Amazon Echo, it"s also got a mute button to ensure it won"t be listening to you unless you want it to be. Like Alexa"s "flash briefing" service, it will give you a summary of everything you need to know in the morning, but alongside the latest headlines it will also give you the current weather, traffic updates and your schedule all in one go.
Both base and top are available in a selection of materials and colours designed to match your home or office dcor, including mango, marine and violet options for the fabric base, and metal bases in copper, snow and slate. You can also have multiple interlinked Google Home units in the same house.
Here"s the rub, though - it might not be coming out in the UK. Apparently, the company "hopes" to bring it to non-US territories, but there"s no guarantee that it ever will - which is a shame, because it actually looks really rather good. It costs $129 in America, so if it ever does make it to these shores, expect the price to be around 100.
15/09/2016:The Amazon Echo family has officially been launched in the UK, with the smart home devices set to ship to customers this Autumn.
The Amazon Echo is a connected speaker that uses an AI core powered by AWS"s cloud, called Alexa. Alexa can control smart home equipment, play music, answer questions and tell jokes.
A number of key partners have already developed integrations for Alexa - known as "skills" - including Spotify, Hive, The Guardian, Just Eat and National Rail. Amazon has also released an SDK for Alexa, letting developer freely create new skills and integrations.
Some have voiced concerns about the privacy implications of having an always-on microphone connected to AWS in your home, but Amazon was quick to placate those fears.
The company assured critics that the microphone only listened for the "wake word" that triggers Alexa, and will only begin streaming audio to the cloud once that word is detected. The Echo also features a mute button that physically prevents the microphone being activated while it is turned on, and Amazon lets users delete anything heard by Alexa.
As well as the existing Amazon Echo, the company unveiled a redesigned version of the Amazon Echo Dot, the smaller form-factor model that eschews the Echo"s inbuilt speakers.
The redesigned Dot now features an updated language processor and is better at recognising user commands. It also features the full range of Alexa-powered voice control functionality.
The Echo is priced at 150, with a 50 discount for Amazon Prime members for the first two days, and the Echo Dot will be available for 50. Both will be available in black or white and can be preordered immediately.
The Echo Dot is also available in packs of six and twelve, with Amazon offering one and two units for free, respectively.
13/09/2016:The Amazon Echo is set to launch in the UK tomorrow, according to a report.
The company has sent out invitations for a special event in London, bearing a design scheme remarkably reminiscent of the Echos blue LED-highlighted body. The Financial Times also cited industry sources who confirmed the release date.
The company sent out a now-deleted tweet (apparently accidentally) indicating that the sold out Echo Dot model was back in stock, with the price knocked down to $50 (37.93) a price cut of almost half.
This could indicate that Amazon is gearing up for some kind of large-scale Echo-based announcement on both sides of the pond. The company could even be preparing to launch an entirely new version of its connected speaker.
23/08/2016:Amazon hopes to launch two music streaming services next month, one to rival Spotify and Apple Music and another that will work exclusively with its Echo speaker.
The retailers main streaming service would be similar to other players in the market, costing around $10 a month and allowing people to stream unlimited amounts of music anywhere they like, according to Recode, citing anonymous industry sources.
This tier would also let people download music to play offline, and cut out adverts entirely.
Its other tier may prove more daring, however, costing between $4 and $5 per month and being tied exclusively to Amazon Echo, its home speaker controlled via its own Alexa voice assistant.
This means it would not work on smartphones or other mobile devices, so people would be confined to their homes when using it.
The Echo speaker has sold one million units since Amazon launched the device last year, but TechCrunch reports that it discontinued the Amazon Echo Dot a device that turns home theatre systems into an Echo speaker after a limited pilot run.
Still, the company expects to sell 10 million Echo speakers by 2017, according to The Information.
Giants vs. Bengals (Week 10) | Game Highlights | NFL
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. For most of the past two years, the New York Giants" offense has consisted of Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr. If the quarterback-wide receiver tandem didn"t play well or put up big numbers, the Giants didn"t have a chance. New York"s offense would sputter, and its defense wouldn"t be strong enough to carry it.
That no longer appears to be the case. The Giants have another weapon -- rookie wide receiver Sterling Shepard -- who is developing into a serious threat. He may not be at the level of Beckham, but Shepard is a quality player out of the slot -- another playmaker to complement Beckham.
Shepard caught a touchdown pass for the third straight game in Sundays 22-16win over the Chicago Bears at MetLife Stadium. He finished with five catches for 50 yards and 1 touchdown.
On a day when Beckham was held to 5 catches on 7 targets and just 46 yards, the Giants (7-3) still managed to do enough offensively to win their fifth straight game. That was just fine with Beckham.
No, Im happy we won, he asked if he was frustrated by the lack of touches.
It helped that Shepard was a major factor. He was targeted 11 times, and came through with two of the Giants biggest plays in the contest.
The second-round pick out of Oklahoma caught a fourth-down pass in the red zone on the Giants opening drive, and he had what proved to be the game-winning score in the third quarter. He used a nasty double-move to get wide open down the seam for the easy touchdown catch.
Manning was impressed.
Sterling is playing well. Hes just getting better on some routes and adding more to his arsenal of routes that hes winning, Manning said after finishing 21-of-36 passing for 227 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. He had a nice third-down conversion on a crossing route. Obviously the touchdown, he had a double move and I think killed the guy. I think the guy was still running the shallow route thinking thats what hes running.
Hes done a good job just understanding the offense, understanding the timing of certain routes, how to set up things. Weve got to keep going with that.
Shepard also caught the game-winning touchdown last Monday night on a fourth-down play in the fourth quarter against Cincinnati. Hes been making catches, and doing it in the clutch.
With Shepard becoming a more consistent threat and veteran wide receiver Victor Cruz chipping in with the occasional big play (he had a key 46-yard reception prior to Shepard"s touchdown grab), the Giants are no longer so reliant on just one playmaker. Its no longer Beckham or bust.
Were up for the challenge. This is why were here and why we play, Cruz said. We understand that theres going to be games where Odell is going to be seeing a lot of coverage and attention. Shep and I and the entire receiving corps, were ready to step up and make plays. When the time comes, we have to be ready.
It"s part of why the Giants won their fifth straight game despite a slow start and poor defensive performance in the first half. The Giants trailed 16-6 before slowly taking over against the inferior Bears (2-8).
It doesnt really matter how you do it or whom you do it against. Five straight wins in the NFL is impressive. The Giants are doing it with an improved defense and an opportunistic offense that now has a second consistent playmaker.
