Malibu cross country runner Claudia Lane claims Foot Locker Nationals title

When the cross country season began, the Foot Locker Nationals were nowhere near Claudia Lanes radar.

The Malibu sophomore admitted her first thoughts about competing at the Foot Locker Nationals came around mid-October. She changed her training and began to change her mentality midseason.

Yet Lane never imagined this.

Lane emerged as the Foot Locker Nationals champion on Saturday morning at San Diegos Balboa Park.

The crazy part? Lane led wire-to-wire to become the first California champion since Jordan Hasay in 2008.

It still hasnt hit me yet, Lane said. Im just really happy right now.

Lane covered the course in 17 minutes, 5 seconds, the best performance at Balboa Park since Aisling Cuffe ran a 16:53 clip in 2010.

Lane raised her arms triumphantly at the finish line and said she felt a wave of emotions.

When I crossed the finish line, it was amazing, Lane said. I was smiling. I was really happy. I had to put my hand over my mouth because I thought I was going to cry. It was really cool.

Lane held off a fantastic effort from Nevada Mareno of Raleigh, North Carolina, who clocked a 17:08 mark, one that would have won the past five Foot Locker Nationals and 11 of the past 14.

Mareno, who took third at last years foot locker nationals, began the first mile in seventh place, then steadily closed the gap but was unable to overtake Lane.

In the second mile, I thought she was starting to catch up with me, so I knew I needed to go, Lane said. Coming down that long hill, thats when I really started to push it.

Lane has seemingly come out of nowhere.

Lane did not start running until last season as a freshman.

This season Lane began blazing by winning the Seaside Invitational, the Palos Verdes Invitational, securing second-place at Woodbridge and winning the individual sweepstakes at Mt. SAC.

It was around Mt. SAC in mid-October that competing at Foot Locker Nationals became a possibility to her.

My coach started to see if I could enter in October -- he thought I was ready, Lane said. I started looking to challenge myself during the season to get ready for it.

I had that mentality that I wanted to stay in front. I was looking at my mile times, and I was tempoing to save for the really important races.

Then Lane captured the CIF Southern Section Division 4 title and the CIF State Division 4 crown, shattering the 2010 sophomore state record set by Davis Fiona OKeefe by a whopping 14 seconds.

Then Lane ran away with the Foot Locker Regionals last week by 35 seconds with a 17:20 mark at Mt. SAC.

I envisioned myself doing well, Lane said. My coach was telling me to imagine myself winning. I knew what time I wanted. I knew that no matter what happens today, it was not going to affect tomorrow, so I challenged myself.

It capped a memorable weekend at the Foot Locker Nationals, where Lane and the other runners had dinner with Olympians at the glorious Coronado Hotel and she had a chance to bond with her West Regional teammates.

Its fun to run with people who are the same speed as you, Lane said. At my school, theres only one guy who can keep up with me.

Its been so much fun. I saw (Olympian) Molly Huddle at the dinner. I got to hang out with my teammates at the beach. And were going ice skating and getting ice cream later today.

She also showed a preview of the new merch on her social media platforms of what the fans would be expecting from the shop. The promotional video showed a few shirts, hoodies and tops that has a picture of Kylie Jenner printed on it.

The design is definitely giving it the rockstar vibe, lingerie, phone cases, caps with her iconic dripping lips logo and the best part is, she has the realizing-stuff T-shirt. I mean how better can it get?

The Kylie Jenner store would be popping up in Canoga Park in California on December 9 (perfect time for the Holiday Season and the season of giving). The 18-year-old reality star expressed her excitement through an Instagram post.

Kylie Jenners products would probably sell out like hotcakes (as usual). And with the ubiquitous presence of ecommerce, it would probably reach more people in the Internet who want to experience Kylie Jenners products themselves.

Admit it or not, shes the most successful internet-business-mogul out there!

Bristol Palin is expecting her third child.

The daughter of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin announced her pregnancy Friday on Entertainment Tonight. She and husband Dakota Meyer said they are excited and "blessed" to welcome a baby in the spring.

A Palin family spokesman confirmed the 26-year-old is pregnant.

bristol palin launched an abstinence campaign after giving birth as an unwed teen. She had her son, Tripp, in December 2008 with former fiance Levi Johnston. She and Meyer had a daughter, Sailor Grace, in December 2015.

Bristol Palin also performed on "Dancing with the Stars" and had a short-lived cable TV show.

Explosions targeting police kill 29 outside Istanbul stadium

Suspected car bomb blast near Besiktas stadium in Istanbul

Two bombs have exploded outside a major football stadium in istanbul after fans had gone home, killing 29 people and wounding scores more, Turkish officials said.

Police cordoned off the area as smoke rose from behind the newly built Vodafone Arena Stadium, known colloquially as Besiktas Stadium after the local team.

Witnesses also heard gunfire after the explosions, which apparently targeted police officers, and at least 166 were reported wounded.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in a statement: We have once again witnessed tonight in Istanbul the ugly face of terror which tramples on every value and decency.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. This year, Istanbul has witnessed bombings attributed by authorities to Islamic State or claimed by Kurdish militants. A state of emergency is in force following a failed July 15 coup attempt.

Turkey is a partner in the US-led coalition against IS and its armed forces are active in neighbouring Syria and Iraq. It is also facing a renewed conflict with an outlawed Kurdish movement in the south east.

The first and larger explosion took place after home team Besiktas beat visitor Bursaspor 2-1 in the Turkish Super League. Without giving numbers, Mr Erdogan said the timing of the attack aimed to maximise the loss of life and vowed the nation would overcome terrorism.

It is thought to be a car bomb at a point where our special forces were located, right after the match at the exit where Bursaspor fans had earlier left, said Turkish interior minister Suleyman Soylu.

He told reporters in Istanbul the first explosion took place on a hill next to and overlooking the stadium. The second explosion struck Macka Park and was believed to be a suicide bomb.

The private NTV channel reported that the target of the first attack was a bus for riot police.

Kurdish militants often target security forces while IS-linked attacks have targeted tourists and the broader public.

Investigators, including Istanbul police chief Mustafa Caliskan, were quickly on the scene. Forensic experts in white uniforms scoured the vicinity of the stadium and the park where the suspected suicide bombing took place.

The Besiktas sports club strongly condemned the attack and said an employee of one of its stores was among the fatalities, as well as member of its congress who was responsible for security at the stadium.

Bursaspor reported that none of the wounded were its fans and issued a statement wishing a speedy recovery to our wounded citizens.

Those attacking our nations unity and solidarity will never win, sports minister Akif Cagatay Kilic said on Twitter. Transport minister Ahmet Arslan, also writing on Twitter, described it as a terrorist attack.

Nato secretary general Jens Stoltenberg condemned what he described as horrific acts of terror, while European leaders also sent messages of solidarity.

Saturday nights attacks come five months after Turkey was shaken by a failed military coup, in which more than 240 people were killed, many of them in Istanbul, as rogue soldiers commandeered tanks and fighter jets in a bid to seize power.

Istanbul has seen several other attacks this year, including in June, when around 45 people were killed and hundreds wounded as three suspected Islamic State militants carried out a gun and bomb attack on its main Ataturk airport.

Breaking: Houston hires Major Applewhite as head coach

Houston has promoted offensive coordinator Major Applewhite to become the schools next head coach, the school announced Friday morning.

A source told 247sports that applewhite won the job over interim coach Todd Orlando and Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin.

The 38-year-old Applewhite had been the Cougars offensive coordinator the past two seasons under Tom Herman. Prior to that, Applewhite spent six seasons as an assistant coach at Texas, where he earlier set several school records as an All-Big 12 quarterback.

Kiffin was at one point thought to be the leader, sources told 247Sports as late as Thursday, but Houston administrators ultimately went with an internal candidate due to hesitation regarding Kiffins ability to bond with Texas high school coaches.

Continuity was also important after Herman and his staff led the Cougars to a 22-4 record in two seasons. Applewhites offenses finished an averaged of third in the American conference in scoring and sixth in yards per play.

Houston (9-3) plays Mountain West champ San Diego State (10-3) in the Dec. 17 Las Vegas Bowl. Applewhite will coach the team in the bowl game, per the release.

The "Fuller House" boss says he thinks "vicious" reviews of the show are "good luck"

Netflix"s "Fuller House" was far from a critical favorite when the spin-off premiered last year, but it"s nothing the show"s creator hasn"t dealt with before.

"I kind of look at bad reviews as good luck for us," executive producer Jeff Franklin recently told Business Insider. "When Full House came on the air, the reviews were pretty vicious, as well. I think we got an "F" from People magazine and 30 years later were on the cover. The reviews for Fuller House I would say were even more vicious than the ones we got for Full House, but our fans dont really care. This is not a show that depends on good reviews for people to watch it."

Franklin has a very good point. Though Netflix doesn"t report its viewing statistics, that hasn"t stopped independent research companies from trying to break the code for the streaming company"s ratings. SymphonyAM, for example, reported that "Fuller House" is the highest-rated show on Netflix.

"What was great is that I know people didnt watch just one episode just to see what it was and then tune out," Franklin said. "We know that most of the fans that came to the show watched all 13 episodes. And they not only watched them once, they watched them several times. So I think the show has been extremely well-received. If these independent research numbers are to be believed, and theres no reason for me not to believe them, its not only the No. 1 show on Netflix, but its the most-watched show on television."

For the record, Netflix has called SymphonyAM"s findings inaccurate. Franklin said Netflix hasn"t given him any viewership numbers at all, but that"s not due to a lack of trying on his part.

"Ive asked the executives on our show, Look, if these numbers are right, just blink once and well never have this conversation again. I try to get it out of them but they are not budging," Franklin told us. "Theyve never acknowledged any of this success. They just say, "Hey, you guys got picked up again. Youre gonna do more shows and youre doing great." Thats about all I get from Netflix."

Despite the drawback of not knowing the viewership data around his show, Franklin is willing to respect Netflix"s business model. He believes that being on Netflix has made the show "cooler than it really is."

"They dont want their creative partners knowing exactly whats going on, but theyve been wonderful to us," he said. "Im thrilled to be at Netflix. If we were on Nick at Nite or ABC, I dont think wed have the same kind of cach and the pop-culture appeal that we have because were on Netflix."
