Trump national security pick Monica Crowley plagiarized multiple sources in 2012 book

Monica Crowley on Larry King Live (July 1996)

Conservative author and television personality Monica Crowley, whom Donald Trump has tapped for a top national security communications role, plagiarized large sections of her 2012 book, a CNN KFile review has found.

The review of Crowleys June 2012 book, "What The (Bleep) Just Happened," found upwards of 50 examples of plagiarism from numerous sources, including the copying with minor changes of news articles, other columnists, think tanks, and Wikipedia. The New York Times bestseller, published by the HarperCollins imprint Broadside Books, contains no notes or bibliography.

Crowley did not return a request for comment. In an update on Tuesday, HarperCollins said it would stop selling the book. "The book, which has reached the end of its natural sales cycle, will no longer be offered for purchase until such time as the author has the opportunity to source and revise the material," according to the statement from HarperCollins.

Crowley, a syndicated radio host, columnist, and, until recently, a Fox News contributor, will serve as Trumps senior director of strategic communications for the National Security Council.

Trumps transition team is standing by Crowley.

"Monicas exceptional insight and thoughtful work on how to turn this country around is exactly why she will be serving in the Administration," a statement from a transition spokesperson said. "HarperCollinsone of the largest and most respected publishers in the worldpublished her book which has become a national best-seller. Any attempt to discredit monica is nothing more than a politically motivated attack that seeks to distract from the real issues facing this country."

In the book, Crowley lifted an entire section on Keynesian economics from the IAC-owned website Investopedia.

In one instance, Crowley lists a variety of so-called "pork" items she claimed were part of the 2009 stimulus package. Many of the instances were copied wholesale from a conservative list of pork barrel spending, with some items dating back to the 1990s. Most of the copied instances were listed on a website for a podiatrist dating back to 2004.

A section on organized labor appears largely copied from a 2004 article by the libertarian think tank the Mises Institute. Another portion of her book on torture is copied from a Fox News article.

Sections of her book are repeatedly lifted from articles by National Review author Andrew C. McCarthy, who is a friend of Crowleys. Lines in her book also match word-for-word the work of other columnists, including National Reviews Rich Lowry, Michelle Malkin, conservative economist Stephen Moore, Karl Rove, and Ramesh Ponnuru of Bloomberg View.

Crowley also lifted word-for-word phrases from the Associated Press, the New York Times, Politico, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Post, the BBC, and Yahoo News.

Crowley has been accused of plagiarism before. In 1999, Slate reported a column by Crowley in the Wall Street Journal mirrored a 1988 article in Commentary, the neoconservative magazine.

"Had we known of the parallels, we would not have published the article," a Journal editors note said at the time. Crowley denied the charge at the time, saying, "I did not, nor would I ever, use material from a source without citing it."

Harrison is truly taking King"s quote to heart, as the future Hall of Fame linebacker went straight to the gym after he and his teammates touched down in Pittsburgh on Monday morning. Pushing 39 years of age, harrison has shown no signs of slowing down, as he is in pursuit of his fourth trip to the Super Bowl.

"Now, it"s just proving people wrong," Harrison told theNFL Network"s Andrea Kremer about what"s currently driving him. "I"m 38-years-old. The older you get in this game, the more people have doubts about you, so it"s easy to feed off of that."

On inauguration day, a study in contrasts

Who’s In And Who’s Out For Donald Trump’s Inauguration Day!

If I had to choose a word to describe the Democrats nominating speeches for House Speaker Michael Madigans re-election last week, it would be either defensive or perhaps joyless.

The speeches seemed directly aimed at Madigans toughest critics and there are plenty of those out there. The nominators at times angrily justified their own votes for Madigan and their continued willingness to support him while under siege by a hostile kabillionaire governor and much of the states media. They literally cannot go anywhere without being asked about why they continue to back Madigan.

For the most part, these were speeches from an all-too-real bunker.

Rep. Dan Beiser (D-Alton) told a touching story about how Madigan dotes over his grandchild, but began his speech with an anecdote about how he figured the child would get him in trouble by playing with a toy car in Madigans office a clear acknowledgment of his leaders fearsome reputation. It was an attempt to humanize a man who has been turned into a cartoon caricature of an evil villain. But it was too little, too late.

Beiser, by the way, was a Tier One campaign target last year who was repeatedly forced to distance himself from Madigan. His nominating speech was the clearest indication yet that he wont be running for re-election next year. Former Rep. John Bradley lost his House race last year partly because the Republicans aired an ad that used video from one of his own Madigan-nominating speeches. Beisers speech was likely not so much an act of courage in the face of overwhelming retribution, but a way to show his thanks to the top dog on his way out the door.

While House Democrats repeatedly lashed out at the opposition to Madigan, Senate Democrats were heaping praise on Senate President John Cullerton for being, in the words of Sen. Toi Hutchinson (D-Olympia Fields), uniquely qualified at building bipartisan bridges because, above everything else, he has demonstrated a love for this state.

Contrast that with Rep. Elgie Sims (D-Chicago) speech, which began with a story about how a friend warned him against seconding Madigans nomination because the Republicans would bash him with tons of negative ads.

The strong sense of political danger about the vote was a sentiment widely shared by Sims fellow Democratic House members. But in the end, the members did their grim best to power their way forward.

Madigan began his own speech by asking for bipartisanship, but then defiantly refused yet again to participate in any race to the bottom with Gov. Rauner and appeared to dismiss out of hand any attempt to reform workers compensation insurance, a key component of the compromise brewing in the Senate.

Madigans speech was nothing like Senate President Cullertons, who mildly complained about the fact that the Senate is often ignored by reporters because if theres no conflict theres no coverage.

Cullerton talked about the advances he and Senate Republican Leader Radogno have made together. The two were elected to their leadership roles as the divisive end of the Rod Blagojevich era was coming to a tragic end. Weve seen some pretty bad times and weve gotten through them by working together, he said.

How about we just try governing for a little bit? Cullerton gently asked near the end of his speech after saying the non-stop campaign-style messaging needs to stop. Thats what the people have sent us here to do.

That same sentiment was expressed much more forcefully in the House, where Republican Leader Jim Durkin angrily demanded an end to the Democrats gotcha games of holding endless roll calls purely designed to be used in campaign ads.

Watching the two ceremonies was truly a study in contrasts. The Senate was brimming with hope that it can finally lead the way out of this horrific two-year impasse. The House, meanwhile, is still mired up to its collective neck in the stalemate with no clear way forward.

And then there was the lone Present vote by Rep. Scott Drury (D-Highwood), who issued a long and rambling press release afterward predicting that he will likely face repercussions for his (mostly meaningless) act, and claiming that Illinois is in a free-fall into the abyss.

Despite his usual melodramatics and penchant for self-aggrandizement, Drurys statement was almost the perfect cap for a joyless and grim afternoon. It is clear, he wrote, that a majority of the General Assembly is not ready for a new Speaker.

That is very true. Last week, the House Democrats continued the age-old political practice of dancing with the one who brung them. But there were few smiles to be seen.

NBA scores 2017: Warriors wanted a win against the Cavaliers. They got an annihilation.

The Weirdest NBA Game Ever! (Warriors vs. Blazers)

The Golden State Warriors arent playing for the regular season, theyve only lost twice since Dec. 10, and theyre on a 70-win pace. Still, even given all that, it felt like they needed Mondays evisceration of the Cleveland Cavaliers if only for their own sanity.

It had been four straight times that the Warriors had lost to Cleveland, a stretch that dated back to June but also included Christmas Day. Of course, Golden State infamously lost that 3-1 Finals lead and signed Kevin Durant a month later, which only fueled the jokes and memes. The regular season may not matter, but the Warriors are constantly reminded theyve blown a couple leads.

Given all that, this was only outcome for this game that made sense a completely vindictive Warriors performance in their home stadium. It happened. Stephen Curry set the tone and Draymond Green provided his third triple-double, while Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson filled in around the edges. The Warriors scored the first seven points and then they finished the second quarter on a 18-3 run. It was 48 minutes of decimation.

This isnt the Cavaliers well see in the playoffs and, presumably, the Finals. They have spent nearly two weeks on the road, and the Warriors matchup was the sixth and final game of the trip. They looked tired and, as the game wore on, disinterested in really attempting a comeback. Of course, that was never going to happen anyway, not against a Warriors team that hasnt left California since Christmas. Still, Cleveland accepted its fate dutifully.

There is a duality. We can admit this wasnt the Cavaliers best performance, while acknowledging the Warriors made a statement nevertheless. They did. The greatest regular season team of all time added Durant, after all. This is who they can be.

The Cavaliers did a better job than anyone limiting Curry over the course of 2016, but it didnt work on Monday. His fingerprints were all over the first-half explosion, with 14 points and 10 assists headed into the break. At one point, he stripped LeBron James straight up and found Thompson for a three-pointer on the other end. Thats the type of night it was.

But even scarier is the defense especially what Durant and Green can combine to be when at their peak. Greens 11-point, 13-rebound, 11-assist evening was great, but his five blocks were the most magnificent part of his night. Durant added three more, continuing his run as a true rim protector for the Warriors.

It was a masterful Warriors performance that left us satiated. No one doubted that Golden State could do this against Cleveland, but four straight losses had to weigh on their psyche just a tiny bit. You yes, you, the reader are on the internet right now, so you must know how omnipresent those 3-1 jokes have become. If you see it, then theres no way the Warriors could have avoided it. They needed this, even if it was only subconsciously.

We all know this will likely be our Finals rematch, and were just as excited for that. This game doesnt change that. But it must make life just a little easier for the Warriors. Like Green said after the game, They want to beat us, and we want to beat them.

On Monday, the Warriors got what they wanted.

LeBron James has learned how to bait Draymond Green

If theres even one thing that happened on Monday the Warriors would want to take back, its Greens flagrant-one foul committed against James. Heres the play.

The flagrant was the correct call Green made clear, unnecessary, and potentially dangerous contact, at least if that hit had come against a normal NBA athlete. We know that doesnt describe James, who absorbs contact as well as anyone in the league, so the way he reacted was probably an exaggeration. You can hate it, but its a smart play. James isnt inventing a foul on a flop, and against a player like Green who he has history with, learning to push his buttons is a useful skill to have.

Green also mocked the flop right after on the court, so thats sure to keep the tension high.

Courtney Lee took to Instagram after the Knicks benched him and lost

Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek wanted to shake things up with his starting lineup, so he benched his $48 million man Courtney Lee in favor of rookie Ron Baker.

New York went on to lose to Atlanta, 108-107, with Lee sitting the second half. He later posted and deleted two pictures from the movie Dumb & Dumber on his Instagram account, which, if you take him at his word, only had to do with his mood and not a shot at the lineups.

No one is sure why Hornacek benched Lee, but it didnt work. Neither is this Knicks team. New York has lost 14 of its last 18 games and is six games below .500 at the midseason mark.

Dont look now, but the Wizards are fifth in the East

John Wall hit Al-Farouq Aminu with a vicious Shammgod dribble move in the third quarter of Washingtons 120-101 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. Hes been the catalyst behind an amazing stretch of Wizards basketball that includes seven wins in their last 10 games.

The Wizards (21-19) have climbed the East standings and now sit fifth in the conference. Thats some good stuff, right there.

MLK Days top 5 performances

Stephen Curry: 20 points (7-of-20 shooting, 5-of-12 on 3s), 11 assists, 4 steals

A play like this just set the perfect tone for Golden State. The ball works best in Currys hands, but its also okay that he can pass up open threes in favor of getting KD a shot like this.

Joel Embiid: 22 points (4-for-9 FG, 13-for-18 FT), 12 rebounds, 5 blocks

This is a development worth watching: Embiid has increased his free throw numbers in every month. He averaged six per game in October, moved up to 6.5 in November, rose to 7.3 in December and is shooting nearly 11 per game in January.

Embiid is huge. Hes freakishly athletic, legitimately 7-feet tall, and absolutely bullish around the basket. Thats hes quickly turning into the hardest player to handle under the basket makes sense, and unlike your average center who fits this criteria, he knocks down nearly 80 percent of his foul shots. As much as we marvel at Embiid shooting threes like its nothing, he may be more Shaquille ONeal than anyone weve seen in years. (Yes, he has to stay healthy. No, Im not saying he will literally become Shaq. Yes, I have to include these qualifiers or people on the internet will get mad at me.) Philadelphia has won six of its last eight, and Embiid is the largest factor so far.

Draymond Green: 11 points (4-of-6 shooting), 13 rebounds, 11 assists, 5 blocks

Green was a plus-43 during his 35 minutes on the court. Holy h**l thats a huge number.

Dennis Schrder: 28 points (13-for-16 FG), 3 assists

At SB Nation, we reward efficiency.

Isaiah Thomas: 35 points (14-of-25 shooting), 5 rebounds, 4 assists

Thomas did it again, and hes now averaging 10.1 points in fourth quarters. In the past 20 years, no one has done higher than 9.5 points in the fourth (Kobe Bryant in 2006).

"The Bachelor" Recap: Corinne Dances With Backstreet Boys, Has Existential Meltdown

Backstreet Boys - Shape Of My Heart

The last time we saw Beard Hunk, he revealed to the women that he and Liz had a one night stand at Jade and Tanners wedding. Drama! Then, nine months later she walked out of the limo, but since she hadnt made enough of an attempt to contact him since their hookup and didnt have convincing answers to his questions, he sent her home. Didnt follow that? Great news: It does not matter at all.

Something that (unfortunately?) is more relevant to the rest of the episode: Corinne (and her trench coat, which probablyshould have been available to draft in Bachelor fantasy leagues).

Thats right Corinne decides that, despite already having a rose, she will toss on a trench coat (and only a trench coat), grab a can to whipped cream and seduce Nick. I definitely know how to turn on the s*x charm, she declares.

Nick has some really great commentary in the sequence that follows. Is this a dress or a coat? he asks Corrine. She squirts the whipped topping in his mouth. Youre are a treat, he says. She sprays some on her chest and makes him lick it off. Oh, Corinne

Seemingly seconds later Corrine has a breakdown because her trench coat most commonly associated with Sherlock Holmes and That Pervert on the School Yard didnt make Nick get down on one knee on the spot. That conversation was so bad for our relationship, she cries. I just want to go home.

Finally, 20 minutes into the episode, we arrive at the rose ceremony. But where is Corinne? (Shes asleep in bed.) I dont want the women here to think that Im validating her behavior, Nick says while doing exactly just that. He proceeds to eliminate all the blonds, apart from Corinne who is safe, snoring away in her bed.

The first group date is with the Backstreet Boys. The women including Corinne, Jasmine G., Danielle L. and some others have to learn a dance, and perform with the group in front of a live audience. The winner gets to be serenaded during a slow dance with Nick. Jasmine G., a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader and current basketball dancer, is the clear favorite to win the dancing competition. Really, how could she lose? Corinne, meanwhile, has an existential breakdown in the bathroom because Nick is dancing with other women. Also, shes bad at dancing.

Its showtime and the girls break it down in front of the screaming crowd. The backstreet boys change the lyric to nick is back, alright! Its all very weird and hard to watch. (Probably not the pull quote they were hoping for to go on promotional material for their Vegas residency, but oh well.) Jasmine G. somehow loses to Danielle L. who also ends up getting the group date rose.

But during the second part of the date, Corinne still somehow finds a way to turn to the attention to herself. She tells the other women how much she misses her nanny, Raquel. Her what? Her nanny. Corinne, 24, explains to the other women that Raquel does everything for her wakes her up in the morning, prepares her cucumbers and cheese pasta. Corinne repeats cheese pasta as if there is not already another name for that. The other women begin to break.

Vanessa gets this weeks one-on-one date with Nick, and the two board a Zero G plane. Today, I am an astronaut, says Vanessa, noted Canadian special education teacher. Nick becomes a philosopher is fake space You cant control what you do, really and the two float around kissing without a care in the world. That is, until Vanessa starts to hurl. Painfully aware of the cameras, Vanessa graceful vomits into a bag, smiles, jumps around in the Zero G plane some more, and barfs again. And repeat. Nick, fully aware that Vanessas last meal has just exited her mouth, kisses her anyway. I cant believe youre still kissing me after I puked, she says. Who says The Bachelor isnt really about finding true love? Back at the house, Corinne catches wind and orders five gallons of whipped cream and two-dozen trench coats.

The last date of the episode is hosted Olympians Allyson Felix, Michelle Carter and Carl Lewis. The American heroes, who have dedicated their lives to the sport of track and field, also agreed to appear on ABC to say words like Nickathalon.

After a first round of athletic events, the field of play is whittled down to three: Rachel, Alexis and Astrid. The final bachelorettes sprint to grab a giant diamond ring. The prize? Time with Nick in a hot tub. In an incredible feat of (athleticism? no.) post-production, the slo-mo footage shows Rachel in the lead. Her momentum knocks the ring off its stand, and as it fall to the ground, third place Astrid runs from behind and grabs it. At the same moment, Rachel steps on the bling and smashes it into tiny bits. Still, Astrid is someone declared the winner, and hops into the hot tub. Rachel still gets the group date rose. Dont try to make it make sense or, like the fake ring, you head, too, may explode.

This weeks episode comes to a dramatic finish when Chris Harrison announces that the cocktail party has been canceled and replaced by a pool party! Corinne then cancels the pool party with her bouncy castle, which is not a euphemism. She actually takes Nick away from the party and into an inflatable castle and lays on top of him so he cant leave. The other women turn on Corinne. Straddling someone in a bouncy castle? No, Vanessa scoffs, setting up next weeks episode which will almost definitely be insane and revolve almost entirely around Corinne. Until then!

How long do you think Corinne has left in this season? Weigh in below.

Chris Chalk Reveals What To Expect When "Gotham" Returns, Talks ...

BELT BEATING MYSTERY - BATMAN - Guardian of Gotham Part 2

Gotham is due to return for Season 3b on Monday and fans arebuzzing about whats to come. Star Chris Chalk, who plays Bruce Waynes friend and confidant Lucius Fox on the Fox original series, assured the International Business Times that the excitement and fanfare is well deserved.

Jeromes (Cameron Monaghan) new Jokeresque look has dominated much of the conversation around the Gotham winter premiere, but it seems thats just one of many bombshells creators Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon intend to drop on viewers in the latter portion of Season 3. Chalk revealed that in addition to some shakeups from Jerome, which tiedirectly into the winter finale cliffhanger, viewers should expect to see lucius continue to work with the gotham Police Department while doing his very best to serve Bruce.

I think what you should expect from Lucius is...because of his failing Thomas Wayne earlier, he will not fail Bruce Wayne, Chalk told IBT.

He explained that just because Lucius is no longer working for Wayne Enterprises doesnt meanthat hes cut ties completely: Every move he makes is meant to serve Bruce in some way. Chalk explained that it may not always be obvious, but said that Lucius will always have Bruces back.

His path has been altered by Wayne enterprises being corrupt, he said. Because of their corruption and him not being able to find the source of that corruption in an efficient manner, hes moved on to the GCPD to try and help Gotham as much as he can while always keeping an eye on Bruce. When Bruce needs him [Lucius] will be there for Bruce.

Gotham fans can also expect the remainder of Season 3 to feature many twists, turns and oh my goodness moments along the way. Chalk revealed to IBT that there were several times during filming that even he couldnt believe the direction the show had taken. He frequently texted with co-stars to discuss whats in store.

There are so many Oh my goodness moments that even I would text my castmates and be like, whoa, OK, so were doing that now? This is really cool, Chalk said. I think its an exciting end of the season coming up.

In addition to working on Gotham, Chalk has held true to his roots appearing in yet another historically significant role. The actor is slated to appear in the Untitled Detroit Project, a film directed by Kathryn Bigelow which tells the tale of the 12th Street Riot of 1967. The initial riot began as a demonstration of civil disobedience in response to the brutality locals were experiencing at the hands of police.

I think audiences will love it, Chalk said. Theyll learn, theyll be informed. I think Kathryn is great at giving information while still being entertaining not in an Abbott and Costello way. Gripping is more the word. The ones that know about the situation will maybe learn a little more and ones who dont will want to go pick up a book afterward.

Chalk noted the parallels between the issues tackled in Untitled Detroit Project between police and citizens, particularly those of color, and those taking place around the country to this day. He suggested that there is a need to acknowledge the unequal distribution of power in the United States before we can move forward and heal.

I think that if we do not acknowledge the imbalances in power in any demographic whether that be male, female, white American, brown skinned American, Native American then we are bound to see our past mistakes repeated again, Chalksaid. Because they were never truly corrected.

A release date for Untitled Detroit Project has not yet been set. In the meantime, catch Chris Chalk in Gotham Monday at 8 p.m. EST on Fox.

Justice walk to march in Dover on Saturday

Top 10 Most Powerful Martin Luther King Jr. Quotes

DOVER Victory Church in Dover will be hosting a Housing Not Handcuffs Community Justice Walk Saturday morning from 10:30 to 2 p.m., starting at the Legislative Green Park. The justice walk is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and in participation with the national Housing Not Handcuffs campaign, said Victory Churchs Pastor Aaron Appling. Depending on weather, he is expecting several hundred participants.

According to their website, Housing Not Handcuffs was initiated by the National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty and the National Coalition for the Homeless, and more than 100 participating organizations. The campaigns mission is to develop strategies around litigation, policy, advocacy, communications and grassroots organizing in order to change local, state and federal laws and practices that are not working toward effective housing policies for the homeless.

The struggle is one thats close to home for Victory Church. The Delaware State News reported in October that the Kent County Levy Court was poised to begin fining Victory Church $100 or more a day for a household camper the county claimed was illegally being used on the churchs premises.

The church had been keeping the camper on their property to temporarily house impoverished people as they seek more permanent accommodations. Back in October, 21-year-old Alexis Simms was living in the camper along with her 2 1/2-year-old daughter and mother. Ms. Simms is blind, has lupus and was pregnant at the time.

Since then, conditions have improved for Ms. Simms and she will be making an appearance at the justice walk on Saturday.

She had her baby and has been housed in an apartment for over two months now everything is going better for her, said Mr. Appling. Shes going to be speaking about her situation at the event and will be advocating for others.

The church is now housing a new person in need of assistance in their camper, said Mr. Appling. They have also sought pro bono legal representation in their dispute with the county.

According to the lawyer representing us, the county fined us while we actually werent breaking any laws, he said. They dropped the fine, but now theyre trying to change the law so they can fine us. Were in the process of fighting that.

Although for the church, the justice walk is a chance to advocate for their main issue affordable housing for the homeless Mr. Appling said that its a chance for local groups and individuals to speak out against any type of injustice. This is inspired by MLKs famous quote in his Letter from Birmingham Jail that said: Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

Among speakers and presenters will be Chief Coker of the Lenape Indian Tribe of Delaware, a Nanticoke Tribe representative, co-chair of Delaware Hispanic affairs, the Housing Not Handcuffs national director and Lt. Gov.-Elect Bethany Hall Long.

Bethany Hall Long will be speaking about the Homeless Bill of Rights she presented to the legislature last session, said Mr. Appling. Its going to be voted on this upcoming session.

The justice walk, mustering at 10:30 a.m. on the Legislative Green will make its way down Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and loop back up Loockerman Street in front of the library, making occasional stops to read and reflect on several mlk quotes.

immediately after the justice walk, the public is invited to a meet and greet at Victory Church. The church is located at 2736 Forrest Ave. in Dover. For questions about the event, email cvcwalk2017@gmail.com or call (302) 450-6036 or (302) 385-6230.
