Move over, Jack Bauer: Meet the new hero of "24: Legacy"

First Look: Eric Carter Has Everything To Lose | Season 1 | 24: LEGACY

After the Super Bowl, viewers got a first look at 24: Legacy, the new iteration of the Fox action franchise that made Kiefer Sutherland"s Jack Bauer a household name.

We last saw Jack surrendering to the Russians at the end of 24: Live Another Day, so it"s no surprise that Legacy features a whole new cast of characters, although the show"s iconic real-time format remains the same.

This time, our hero is Eric Carter, played by Corey Hawkins best known for his breakout role as Dr. Dre in Straight Outta Compton and his ongoing role as Heath in The Walking Dead.

Eric is the leader of an elite squad of U.S. Army Rangers, who, six months prior to the events of the series, killed terrorist leader Sheik Ibrahim Bin-Khalid. In the aftermath, Bin-Khalids followers declared a fatwah against Carter, his squad and their families, forcing them into federal witness protection.

But as the premiere proved, new lives and identities haven"t protected Eric"s squad from being exposed, and now he and his teammate Ben Grimes (Charlie Hofheimer) are the only survivors, racing to stay ahead of Bin-Khalid"s acolytes and relying on the protection of Rebecca Ingram (Miranda Otto), the former National Director of CTU who ran their operation against Bin-Khalid.

Turns out that trouble has followed Eric and Ben home because Ben stole something from Bin-Khalid the night the Rangers killed him: a box containing a USB with a list of sleeper cells in the U.S., along with codes to activate the recruits for an attack.

At the end of the premiere, Eric discovered that Ben ran off with the USB and intends to sell the list to the highest bidder, which clearly won"t end well for anyone.

They probably won"t be able to rely on Rebecca for too long either, since she recently retired from her post to support her husband"s (Jimmy Smits) presidential campaign and technically no longer has access to CTU"s intel. To make matters worse, in the premiere, she made the super sensible decision to knock out her successor, Director Keith Mullins (Teddy Sears), and tie him up in a closet perfect 24 logic since she suspects that he might be the mole responsible for leaking the Rangers" whereabouts to Bin-Khalid"s men.

Miranda Otto as Rebecca Ingram

During a panel at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in January, the show"s producers noted that they wanted to make Legacy accessible to newcomers as well as longtime fans, which was borne out by the standalone nature of the premiere.

"Were very carefully making sure that people do not have to have seen the original series to follow," said executive producer Evan Katz. "Were really mostly concerned with making this story a complete thing and making it these actors" and these characters" story."

That said, observant fans will still catch a few Easter eggs, like the way new CTU analyst Mariana Stiles (Coral Pea) name-dropped her cousin, Edgar (Louis Lombardi) who was killed in Season 5 of 24 when proving her credentials to her snarky colleague Andy (Dan Bucatinsky).

In case the premiere didn"t make it obvious, the producers also reiterated that Eric Carter is a very different kind of hero from Jack Bauer, so we should expect a learning curve in the coming episodes.

"Eric Carter is a young soldier who has returned from duty. Hes not an intelligence officer. Hes not a CTU agent. So Jack [at start of 24], was a person who ... the die had been cast in terms of what he does, why he does what he does," said executive producer Howard Gordon. "This is really an origin story. [Eric] is really feeling his way through this journey, and were seeing the birth of an agent."

Hawkins agreed: "Theres things that Eric just isnt comfortable doing. He is sort of an average human being with extraordinary ability in terms of being a soldier. But the rules of engagement are very different on the home front. And theres an adjustment period that were going to have to watch him stumble through, messily."

"Hes learning and coming to grips with the fact that the enemy may be one of us. The enemy may not be who you think it is," added executive producer Manny Coto. "There are allegiances that arent played out as they are on the battlefield where you have your comrades and everybodys in it. So the more hes plunged into this world, the more he realizes that the choices he made and was used to making on the battlefield dont apply in this environment."

The producers pointed out that the very nature of terrorism has changed since 24 first began in 2001. "The big fear was large scale attacks and giant infrastructure, and its become unfortunately something more that can arise in your own neighborhood, the lone wolf attack," noted Coto. "Thats something that the show is dramatizing this year and extrapolating on in the worst case scenario [way] that 24 usually does."

Hawkins admitted that he felt his fair share of trepidation about headlining such an iconic franchise, but between the strength of the script and the opportunity to be a role model, he leapt at the chance.

"If the challenge wasnt there, then there was no reason for me to say yes to the role. The script happened to be amazing when I read it. It lifted off the page, and then your mind just starts going with where you can take it and what it means in television to be a hero and look like I look," he told reporters. "So that just really stuck with me. And then the only pressure is, as an actor, to step into Eric Carters shoes and make him as complex and as flawed and as human as I could, and thats the fun. Thats what we get to play with every day, those conversations in between the words, whats not on the page. Not really following in the footsteps of anything that came before, because 24 is all about the moment that youre in, and as an actor, thats a gift."

With the country increasingly divided along political lines, Gordon noted that Legacy asks a question that many people are currently grappling with:

"The headline of the show and the question that it asks, and [that] every character in the show asks is, "what does it mean to be an American?" What does it mean to be an American as a black soldier coming back from war? What does it mean to be a high-powered woman who ran CTU?" he said. "Everybodys asking that question in their own way."

Episode 2 of 24: Legacy will premiere Monday, February 6 at 8 p.m. et/pt on fox.

Arthur Blank: Matt Ryan will be compensated well

Arthur Blank: Lessons from Robert Kraft
Getty Images

Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan has a good chance of being named the leagues Most Valuable Player on Saturday night and will be leading his team in Super Bowl LI on Sunday, which means the team has gotten a pretty good return on the six-year, $103.75 million deal they gave him in 2013.

It also means that Ryans next deal is likely to be even bigger. Colts quarterback Andrew Luck signed a contract before the 2016 season that averages over $24.5 million a year and Ryan may be in position to match or top that figure.

Falcons General Manager Thomas Dimitroff said during Super Bowl week that he anticipates contract talks will be on our radar sometime in the near future and owner Arthur Blank said Friday that Ryan needs to be compensated well and he will be. Blank didnt say if that meant the biggest deal for a quarterback, but its not a bad bet given how long Blank would like Ryan to be in Atlanta.

When Matt was being interviewed this week, somebody asked him, What do you think about Tom Brady, his age, being 39 and will be 40 in August? and Matt said, Id like to play as long as Tom, blank said, via espn.com. thats when i jumped up off the sofa and started clicking my heels. We have a lot of young talent on both sides of the ball. But to have our quarterback in place for an extended period of time will be incredible news for Atlanta. Matt is in great shape and takes wonderful care of himself. So, Im excited.

It sounds like that excitement will extend to Ryans bank account sooner rather than later as well.

Super Bowl 2017 Half Time Show: 6 Movies That Advertised on Super Bowl

Coldplay"s FULL Pepsi Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show feat. Beyoncé & Bruno Mars! | NFL

A superbowl ad cost about $ 5 million per 30 seconds. More than 300 million Americans and the world watched this year"s 51th Super Bowl (local time on February 5) to take part in the commercial time, worldwide companies and Hollywood studios took part. From the start of Super Bowl movie trailer commercials to commercials that combine movies and merchandise, we will look at six previous Super Bowl ads.

The first Super Bowl movie trailer ad was Independence Day (1996)

In 1996, the 30th Super Bowl was a tournament for a film company. Twentieth Century Fox debuted a movie trailer as the Super Bowl commercial for the first time ever. The 30-second short trailer had a tremendous impact after the advertisement. Independence Day, which opened in July after five months of advertising, earned more than $ 300 million in North America and $ 817.4 million in 1996, making it the best-selling movie of the year. Since the Super Bowl advertising, many film producers have begun to pursue Super Bowl commercial time.

Matrix Series

Kia Motors K900 (Korean name K9) met Morpheus (Lawrence Fishburn). As Morpheus tells Neo (Keanu Reeves) to pick one of the red and blue pills in the Matrix series, Morpheus says he will give a couple a red key and a blue key, and pick a red key to see a new luxury car. Kia motors" 49th super bowl advertising concept in 2014, which is different from other luxury cars, is impressive. Couples and Morpheus in the car seem to see the series" Matrix "as the other cars around and the street lights pop out while the opera "Turndott"" Nessun Dorma (the princess is sleepy) "is called.

Take Series

Jean Bryan (Liam Neeson) got angry at the game. He who dreams of revenge sends an application for rematch to his opponent. "I do not know who you are. I"ll find you and I will surely kill you. "Supercell"s" Clash of Clan "commercial, which parodied the famous writer of the series. Supercell launched the 49th Super Bowl commercial in 2015 with Liam Neeson , the main character of the series. The ad was very popular, exceeding the "Class of Clan" box office and 150 million YouTube views (as of February 4). Various media have named this ad as one of the best super ball ads ever.

Ant-man and Hulk"s Coca-Cola (2015)

Anthony (Paul Rudd) broke into Bruce Banner"s lab. His goal is to steal the Coca-Cola Mini in a laboratory refrigerator. Coca-Cola"s one-minute ad on the 50th Super Bowl Commercial Time in 2016 is the chase of Ant-man and the Hulk chasing him with a Coca-Cola Mini, which looks like a blockbuster movie. Coca-Cola Advertising that harmonizes the image of Mini, Ant-man and Hulk. The Coca-Cola Mini has received a great deal of attention with its ad in the commercial of "Ant-man", which had a world-wide record of more than $ 500 million in 2015.

Cute little Darth Vader, series

Volkswagen"s 2012 Passat commercial, which was broadcast during the 46th edition of the Super Bowl in 2011, was recognized for its work in the 2011 Cannes International Advertising Awards. This ad contains a story about a child playing a "Star Wars" at home with a Darth Vader costume. It is good to see the behavior of the child who uses his father "s passat against him and the father who starts the car with his smart key for the child. The name of the child is Max Page. At the time, Max, 6, was suffering from a congenital heart disorder called "Palo-4 Obstruction." The parents of the child asked VW for the appearance of Max to encourage the parents and children of the world suffering from the illness. The impressive advertisement and behind-the-scenes became a hot topic after the Super Bowl.

"This is the end" (2013)

The ad was chosen by the Associated Press as one of the 47th Super Bowl ads in 2013. The reason why AP selected Samsung Electronics "Galaxy advertisement as the top of the list is because it sneers at Samsung Electronics" competitor, Apple. At that time, Samsung Electronics and Apple filed patent lawsuits. Paul Rudd and Seth Logan bring up the Super Bowl story in the commercial, but are restrained by their boss (Bob Odenkirk). They are cheating on their bosses, expressing the football team San Francisco 49ers in San Francisco "50 minus 1 ", as if they were watching comedic films in a comedy movie. Samsung satirizes Apple, claiming that the rounded corners of the iPhone are their own unique patents. Samsung"s advertising is one of the best super bowl ads in the world where movies, satires and companies are fighting in one ad.

Isaiah Thomas Making A Run At History With His Fourth Quarter Production

Isaiah Thomas Full Highlights 2017.01.25 vs Rockets - 38 Pts, 9 Assists, CLUTCH!

By Brian Robb, CBS Boston

BOSTON (CBS) A few weeks ago, bringing up the idea of isaiah thomas as an mvp candidate was a far-fetched suggestion outside the city of Boston. The 5-foot-9 point guard is starting to change that narrative though as he combines fourth quarter heroics with potent scoring through a torrid stretch of games in the last month.

The newly crowned Eastern Conference Player of the Month strengthened his case for MVP consideration with his latest performance during the Celtics second half comeback win over the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night. He posted a game-high 44 points, including 19 in the fourth quarter, which has led to five-game winning streak and the second seed in the Eastern Conference for Boston.

It was big, Thomas said of Bostons first win over the Raptors this year. It feels like every game is close against them and they always beat us, so it was big for us to not put our heads down and not get discouraged and keep at it. We played a h**l of an end to the third and fourth quarter tonight. A lot of guys stepped up.

With Avery Bradley sidelined for eight straight games with an Achilles injury, a heavier onus has fallen on Thomas from a scoring standpoint and hes continued to rise above everyones expectations. In seven of his last nine games overall, hes scored 35 or more points. If thats not impressive enough, take a closer look at his production during fourth quarters during the Cs latest five-game winning streak:

Those kinds of numbers had Raptors head coach Dwane Casey comparing Thomas to the likes of Larry Bird and Michael Jordan before Wednesdays. Brad Stevens wasnt willing to go that far with the comparison, but hes appreciative of the incredible stretch the NBAs No. 2 overall scorer has put together.

I dont really get into those arguments, Stevens said of the Bird/Jordan comparison for Thomas. Other people do. So Ill let everybody else argue away, but hes playing at a really high level, hes doing a lot of good things.

The 27-year-old is now averaging over 10 points per game for the season in the fourth quarter, and hes on pace to have the highest points in a quarter average in the past 21 years. Opposing defenses know the Celtics are trying to find him at the end of games, and Stevens remains in awe of how Thomas overcomes that ball denial with his speed and savvy.

First of all, its hard to keep a point guard from having the ball, because he can bring it up if you really need him to, Stevens explained. But we just try to mix it up as much as possible with him on the ball, off the ball, screening, cutting, whatever the case may be. And eventually, things like Jaylen (Brown)s layup and other guys layups, you know you know, Isaiahs screening to get them open, and h**l never get much, get much talk about that. And thats just kind of the way the game works. Somebodys setting the screen to free him up, somebodys making a cut to empty a space, somebodys doing their job and hes doing an incredible job of taking advantage of it.

Thomas deflected the credit from Stevens and tried to credit his coach for his gameplan instead.

Brad does a great job of knowing when to put me off the ball, especially when we have Marcus [Smart] or Terry [Rozier] in the game. They call the right plays for me and like I said, whether I got the ball or not, guys set screens to get me open. I try to do the rest, he said.

With the Celtics now standing just 2.5 games behind the Cleveland Cavaliers for the top seed in the East, Isaiahs heroics have put Boston squarely among the NBAs elite. The question now is just how long h**l be able to sustain this run and further cement his name in the franchise record books.

Brian Robb covers the Celtics for CBS Boston and contributes to NBA.com, among other media outlets. You can follow him on Twitter @CelticsHub.

Kurt Warner: Stafford became a more complete QB

Welcome to the Hall of Fame: LaDainian Tomlinson, Kurt Warner & Terrell Davis | NFL Network

HOUSTON - Kurt Warner was speaking to a group of reporters at an NFL Network event this week on how the Chicago Bears should move on from quarterback Jay Cutler after eight seasons, when he was asked about Matthew Staffords first eight seasons in Detroit.

I think we saw a lot of growth from him this year, Warner said of Stafford. You lose Calvin Johnson and everyone goes, okay, this cant be good for anyone, especially the quarterback.

But I think (Stafford) became more of a complete quarterback this year, more than hes ever been, without Calvin Johnson. Without that crutch of, okay, if nothing else, I can just throw it up to Calvin and h**l make a play for me and you get into that mode of not necessarily playing the quarterback position.

In his first year playing without Megatron, Stafford ranked in the top 10 in the NFL in yards (4,327), completion percentage (65.3) and TD-to-interception ratio (24-10).

To Warners point, the Lions became just the third team in NFL history to have five players catch at least 50 passes.

Now, he became a more complete quarterback and I think we saw some really good things from him, Warner said of Stafford. I think they have to build some guys around him, they have to get better around him, but I think there were some great signs there that says, maybe he can become that complete quarterback and take us to the next level if we surround him with the right guys.

Stafford was humming along and was mentioned among the midseason MVP candidates before a finger injury on his throwing hand affected his play down the stretch. The Lions lost their last four games of the season, including a playoff matchup in Seattle. Stafford threw just two touchdowns and had three interceptions over that span.

I think youve got some good weapons on the outside, warner said of the Lions. I think they have to improve their running game first and foremost. They just have to get better there and take the pressure off the quarterback."

The Lions ranked 30th in rushing this past season, averaging just 81.9 yards per game on the ground.

And then defensively, I think (Detroit) needs some game changers over there to be able to step up and carry that team," Warner said. "I just think you need to add some of those pieces and not put it all on Matt Stafford and that right arm to win games for you.

NFL Honors 2017: TV Schedule, Live-Stream Coverage, Final Predictions

Offensive & Defensive Rookie of the Year | 2017 NFL Honors
Kevin C. c*x/Getty ImagesPaul KasabianCorrespondent IFebruary 4, 2017

The NFL has a habit of turning every little thing in the league calendar into an event, for better (e.g. the NFL draft, which is still addicting even though we are basically just watching people read off names five to 10 minutes at a time) or worse (showcasing a random and bad divisional game every Thursday night).

Throw the NFL Honors into the better category, if only because it"s an organized (and sometimes entertaining) way to present all the awards in one place (why MLB chooses to randomly and haphazardly reveal its MVP winners in a one-off news report the week before Thanksgiving, for example, is beyond me), and it helps kill time until the Super Bowl.

Here"s a look at this year"s nfl honors information, as well as predictions for the top seven categories. You can check out each category here on the NFL Honors webpage.

NFL Honors Information

When:Saturday

Time:8 p.m. ET

TV:Fox

Host: Comedian Keegan-Michael Key

Live Stream: Fox Sports Go

AP Comeback Player of the Year

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson and Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le"Veon Bell are the two best candidates for this award, as they both endured season-ending knee injuries in 2015, only to return and dominate this season. Nelson caught 97 passes for 1,257 yards and 14 touchdowns, while Bell finished fifth in the league in rushing (1,268 yards) despite missing four games.

They are both deserving candidates, but Nelson has already won the PFW/PFWA Comeback Player of the Year award, which might foreshadow Saturday night"s winner.

Give the edge to Nelson, but either player is a good choice.

AP Defensive Rookie of the Year

Rick Scuteri/Associated Press

No contest here. San Diego defensive end Joey Bosa is the easy choice, as he racked up 41 tackles and 10.5 sacks in just 12 games. That stat line is made even more impressive by the fact he sat all of training camp due to a contract dispute and missed the first four games with a hamstring injury.

The rookie learning curve didn"t apply to Bosa (who is only 21 years old), however, and he quickly became a star.

AP Offensive Rookie of the Year

See above. Just replace Bosa and his stats with Ezekiel Elliott and his stats.

In all seriousness, the Dallas Cowboys running back was the No. 1 key to his team"s nine-win turnaround, accumulating 1,994 yards from scrimmage in 15 games while helping lead Dallas to a 13-3 record and the No. 1 seed in the NFC postseason.

Elliott has a great offensive line and another fantastic rookie (quarterback Dak Prescott) to thank for his individual success, but he enjoyed one of the best first years of any NFL player in recent memory.

AP Defensive Player of the Year

The best defensive player in football is Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald, who is one of the best run-stoppers and interior pass-rushers in the game. That deadly combination helped him achieve Pro Football Focus" best grade (95.6) for any defensive player this season.

If you"re wondering what he did last year, he got a 99.9 score out of 100, per Pro Football Focus. That"s pretty good.

He"d get my vote if I had one. The issue is that Donald plays for a bad Rams team that finished 4-12, while other Defensive Player of the Year candidates (Oakland Raiders linebacker Khalil Mack, for instance, who won the PFW/PFWA award and Sporting News award for this category) played on postseason teams.

Still, Donald is just too good, and given the amount of tape and advanced statistics we have at our disposal to study players, maybe the voting body will give him more recognition even though he doesn"t play on national television.

Maybe I"m just being stubborn (that"s probably the case, actually), but I"m sticking with a Donald prediction even though Mack is sweeping this category so far.

AP Offensive Player of the Year

Stephen Dunn/Getty Images

Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson should win this award running away. He accumulated 2,118 yards from scrimmage and 20 touchdowns, leading the league in both categories.

Johnson did this even though the rest of his offense was largely poor, as quarterback Carson Palmer, a banged-up offensive line and every wide receiver not named Larry Fitzgerald had down and/or inconsistent seasons for the Cards.

Elliott could win this, as could Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan or Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but Johnson"s mind-boggling stats are too hard to ignore.

AP Coach of the Year

It"s a two-man race between Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett and New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

The edge goes to Garrett because he led a nine-win turnaround year to year, the best improvement in the entire NFL. Dallas finished with the second-best regular-season record and the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs.

Belichick should get credit for leading the Pats to a 3-1 record while quarterback Tom Brady was suspended (and a 14-2 record overall), but funny enough, he handicaps himself from winning this award by doing so well year after year, as a marked improvement from the previous season is what usually secures this honor (check the list here).

I"m sure Belichick doesn"t mind, though.

AP Most Valuable Player

Ryan is clearly winning the MVP. He is a massive minus-1000 favorite to win, per OddsShark. The second-closest competitor is Rodgers at plus-500. In other words, the NFL engraved Ryan"s name on the trophy weeks ago.

Eric Gay/Associated Press

The Falcons quarterback led his team to an 11-5 record and the second seed in the NFC playoffs. He threw 38 touchdowns and only seven interceptions while completing 69.9 percent of his passes. Even more impressive, he tossed 12 touchdowns and no interceptions in the last four games of the regular season, all Falcons wins.

There are a handful of worthy MVP candidates this year, but Ryan is the clear-cut front-runner because he checks all of the boxes.

Tomi Lahren blasts Berkeley protesters as "militant herd of triggered crybabies"

Tomi Lahren - 2/2/2017 I Stand with Milo - Final Thoughts

Tomi Lahren blasted University of California, Berkeley protesters as a "militant herd of triggered crybabies" for causing chaos that forced the school to evacuate Breitbart editor Milo Yiannapoulos before he was scheduled to speak earlier this week.

"I don"t care what your leftist posse or professors told you, it is not OK, nor is it protected expression, to attack people or set fires because someone else"s free speech offends you," the conservative Blaze host said on Thursday night during her "Final Thoughts" segment.

"It"s true, the unloving and intolerant left will stop at nothing, literally nothing, to ensure conservatives don"t have a voice on college campuses and as evidence by the riots a U.C. Berkeley," she said before playing a montage of video showcasing the violence on the school"s campus that occurred Wednesday night.

Livestreams and Twitter posts from the demonstration show protesters shooting fireworks at the building, and at least one fire small fire was set near the event. Windows were also reportedly broken. Police ordered crowds to disperse, and fired rubber pellets at demonstrators who refused the order.

A local reporter tweeted images of "fresh" spray paint last night that featured vandalism saying "kill fascist," "f Milo," and "kill Trump" at a Walgreens located near the campus. The violence was instigated by a group of "about 150 masked agitators," according to a UC Berkeley statement, indicating that the majority of the "more than 1,500 protesters" conducted themselves peacefully.

"See, what these animals, and yes I said animals, did last night proves my point. It proves Milo"s point and it"s part of the cancer spreading like literal wildfire across our nations college campuses," Lahren said. "I can"t figure out why some in my generation are willing to create chaos and incite anarchy over someone else"s free speech."

No arrests were made, according to multiple reports including CNN and the L.A. Times, but President Donald Trump tweeted, "If U.C. Berkeley does not allow free speech and practices violence on innocent people with a different point of view NO FEDERAL FUNDS?"
