Yesterday, Feb. 20, marked what would have been the 50th birthday of Nirvana icon Kurt Cobain. The lasting impact of his music speaks for the legacy he left, but on this special day kurts daughter found time to remark how grateful she was for something other than the the music: life.

Posting a handwritten notefrom the heart on her Instagram page (seen below), Frances Bean Cobain wrote, Today would have been your 50th birthday. You are loved and you are missed. Thank you for giving me the GIFT of life. Forever your daughter, Frances Bean Cobain.

Frances also corresponded with her grandmother yesterday, delighting in being raised by someone so strong and compassionate. Posting a screenshot of the text conversation on Instagram (seen below), Grams responded, Ohhhh, what beautiful words, from his beloved daughter. You were such a caring, loving little girl and haveturned into such a beautiful young woman, he would be so smugly proud of you, saying, Yeah thats MY daughter. I love you with all my heart. Thank G*d you were here for me to love and care for.

Earlier this year, we reported that Frances was stillengaged in a legal battle with her estranged husband, Isaiah Silva, over one of Kurts most coveted guitars. The1959 Martin D-18E acoustic was used for NirvanasMTV Unplugged performance and Silva is claiming it was given to him by Frances, though she disputes that she never would have gifted away such an item.

Arsenal and Liverpool can seal Joe Hart transfer for 20million

Arsenal and Liverpool could be boosted in their transfer pursuit of Joe Hart, with reports that Manchester City will sell to one of their top six rivals if they receive a bid of 20million.

The England goalkeeper is currently on loan at Torino after falling out of favour with City manager Pep Guardiola at the start of the season, and he looks unlikely to return to the Etihad Stadium.

Despite years of great service at City, it looks like Hart will be allowed to move on for the right price this summer, and a number of the clubs main rivals are thought to be interested.

Arsenal and Liverpool are among those most strongly linked with a raid for the 29-year-old, and theyve been given a big boost in the chase for his signature.

According to The Times, City are not against losing a player of Harts calibre to one of their rivals, as long as their 20million valuation is met.

Liverpool look in need of a major upgrade on both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius, while Arsenal number one Petr Cech has looked past his best at points this season and could do with replacing in the near future.

Hart has 379 Premier League appearances to his name, and has won two titles, one FA Cup and two League Cups during his time with City.

Cal-exit

In the wake of the election of President Donald Trump, the Golden States bid for secession has picked up steam -- albeit just enough to fog up an unlikely escape window. Sweden is often misunderstood. But Trump"s views subvert the truth

Trump tweets clarification of Sweden remarks

Donald Trumps outburst about that thing that happened in Sweden last night which turned out to be a Fox News report he had seen on the difficulties of integrating refugees is only the latest illustration of the role that Sweden plays in the fantasies of the outside world.

The wonderful thing about Sweden is that you can believe what you like about it. For much of the 20th century it was a place where foreign progressives could only believe that everything ran perfectly smoothly and everyone got laid, thanks in part to the exploits of Ingrid Bergman and the Swedish arthouse film I am Curious (Yellow). In the 21st century it has become the country where foreign rightwingers can believe that nothing works and that rape is widespread.

Trump is not the first american president to use sweden to prove a domestic point. In 1960, the president, Dwight Eisenhower, gave a speech to a Republican breakfast meeting at which he said that Sweden has a tremendous record for socialistic philosophy, and the record shows that their rate of suicide has gone up almost unbelievably and I think they were almost the lowest nation in the world for that. Now, they have more than twice our rate. Drunkenness has gone up. Lack of ambition is discernible on all sides.

This was complete nonsense, except, perhaps, for the point about drunkenness: Sweden had only abandoned prohibition-era alcohol rationing in 1955, five years before he spoke. But even though Eisenhowers comments drew on no known Swedish sources, they were entirely harmless nonsense compared to the current presidents.

Trump cites non-existent Sweden terror attack

Trump, on the other hand, was drawing on a persistent set of myths among Swedens nationalist right, which claims that Muslim immigration has turned some urban areas into ghettoes where sharia law is practised, gang rape is commonplace, and the police and fire engines hardly dare to go. This is a grotesque distortion of a worrying reality. There has been a huge rise in recorded violent crime in Sweden in the last 40 years, but it is still a very much safer place than the US, UK and indeed most of Europe. There has been a huge increase in humanitarian immigration. But its not clear how the two are related.

I used to live in one of these supposed ghettoes in the early 1980s, when it was still largely white and the nearest we got to criminality was when my friend the bootlegger made vodka in his kitchen. When I went back 20 years later, there was a Somali family living in my old flat, and almost all the children playing in the open spaces around it were supervised by women in headscarves. I was with a radio producer who talked at length in Arabic to an Iraqi refugee who had been resettled there after a hellish journey.

But there was absolutely no feeling of danger or hostility. Similarly, Rosengrd, the suburb of Malm which is portrayed in the rightwing press as Swedens answer to Mogadishu, is far more open and peaceful than, say, the rougher parts of north London.

That said, there are pockets of serious criminality in the most segregated parts of Sweden. These are fuelled most by the easy availability of guns after the Balkan wars, and by disputes in the drug trade. Kossovar, Bosniak and Turkish gangs, along with Scandinavian bikers, have engaged in b****y street wars. Three young people were shot dead in their car about 500m from where I used to live in Uddevalla two years ago: the killers were a couple of Lebanese brothers. There is one suburb of Gothenburg divided between two rival Somali groups.

Almost all of this criminality arises from second generation immigrants, when they are immigrants at all. When I was last in the country, I spoke at length to a very senior policeman in Gothenburg, and his view was that this was a problem caused by adolescent males, unemployment, exclusion from the communities around them, and easy access to guns. Religion had nothing to do with it.

We were talking in the shadow of a hideous murder in one of the most segregated communities in Sweden, where two schoolchildren and a teacher had been killed with a sword by a young man dressed up as a stormtrooper. He was white, and his victims were not and were chosen for exactly that reason. To the extent that there is serious ethnically motivated crime in Sweden, it appears that the immigrants are the victims as much as the perpetrators, whatever Trump may think.

Dustin Johnson takes over world No. 1 ranking with win at Genesis Open

Dustin Johnson"s Best Golf Shots 2017 Farmers Insurance PGA Tournament

With his win at the Genesis Open on Sunday, Dustin Johnson rose to No. 1 in the Official World Golf Rankings for the first time in his career. Johnson is the 20th golfer to be ranked No. 1 since the OWGR started back in 1986. He overtakes Jason Day who had held the spot for 47 consecutive weeks and 51 overall.

Johnson has a long way to go to catch the all-time leader in weeks at No. 1. Tiger Woods was ranked No. 1 in the OWGR for 683 total weeks including runs of 264 weeks and 281 weeks consecutively in the early and mid-2000s.

Greg Norman is No. 2 on the all-time list at 331 weeks. There have only been 10 golfers who have occupied the No. 1 spot since 2000. I listed them in order of first appearance. Woods has dwarfed pretty much everyone else on this list.

johnson has earned the spot, though. After winning three times last season including his first major championship, he has finished in the top 10 in two of three tournaments this year before getting the win this week. He previously had five top-five finishes at this tournament without a win.

Day, who has held the top spot for nearly a year now and is No. 7 on the all-time list in weeks at No. 1, had some advice for the newly-minted No. 1 player.

I think hes going to do just fine, said now-former No. 1 Day. Hes won every single year that hes been out here. Thats a formula. Whatever hes doing he just needs to keep doing. If he keeps playing the way hes been playing, we have to all pick our games up to try and compete against him. Hes playing some really good golf.

Preview: The Remington 700

Remington 700 .223 with Suppressor

A young man from Enon, Miss., was released early from a 10-year prison sentence he was serving for the shooting death of his little brother. 60 Minutes reports this Sunday that Zac Stringer, who was 15 when he shot his brother, has been insisting for years that the rifle went off without his finger on the trigger. Stringer, now 20, was granted a good behavior release while 60 Minutes was investigating the Remington 700 rifle used in the shooting. The gun has a trigger mechanism called the X-Mark Pro that has since been recalled by the company, because it can inadvertently discharge.

remington has received hundreds of complaints that rifles with this trigger produced between 2006 and April 2014 have fired without the trigger pulled. This information was not public during Stringers trial. Lesley Stahls report includes Stringers father, Roger, who had testified against his son during his trial, but now believes hes innocent. It will be broadcast on 60 Minutes Sunday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. ET/PT.
