Last weeks entertainment-news cycle was nearly hijackedas it always seems to be when Friends is involvedby news of what was billed as a Friends cast reunion, for a February 21 special honoring acclaimed sitcom director James Burrows. All six actors were to take part in the specialso, while not exactly the Friends movie or 20-years-later Thanksgiving special episode many may have been hoping for, it nevertheless had the Friends fans nearly ecstatic. Until, that is, Matthew Perry had to go and release a statement that he would not be attending in person, as he will be acting in a play in London at the time (which was extremely Chandler of him, franklythe skipping part, not the acting in a play in London part . . . which is more Joey, we suppose, if Joeys career worked out the best it possibly could have).

And then, this week, there was a separate cast-reunion scandal of sorts, as the entire cast of the Disney Channel original movie High School Musical re-united for a special to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the phenomenon . . . except for Zac Efron, who, per a channel spokesperson, was busy with promotion for his new film, Dirty Grandpa, and participated via a pre-taped message, while Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, and the rest gathered in person, for the telecast that will air tonight.

But when and where there is distress in this (pop cultural) world of ours, you can almost always count on the denizens of the Internet to provide some solace. And, oh how they have provided this time!

At firstas E! News has uncovereddistraught fans simply derided Efron and Perry for their perceived disloyalty.

While its unclear exactly which Twitterer was the one to take this anger and actually devise a theory, an explanation, we can only assume he or she was up late this long weekend, clicking through channels, munching on Sour Patch Kids (Sour Patch Kids not specifically related to anything here, but they just make sense in our conception of this), and landing upon the classic 2009 romp 17 Again. Wait a second . . .

And this one is a (delightful) slight variation on the theory:

Hey, if Neighbors is getting a sequel, why cant 17 Again? (27 Again?) And we have now decided, as a VF.com collective, we are going to ignore any sort of factual improbabilities here and are going to just subscribe to this alternate universe in which this move is happening, and we will be keeping you updated on the progress of 27 Again (See Matthew Perry and Zac Efron Pal Around on Set During 27 Again Filming, First Look at 27 Again Footage Promises Heartstring-Tugging and Shenanigans) for the next few months.
