Bitter cold, icy roads cause school delays, closures


Bus Driver Shortage Causes Delays On 1st Day Of School

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Freezing temperatures and icy road conditions caused some West Michigan schools to issue two hour delays or close Thursday, Dec. 15.

Caledonia Community Schools, Ionia, Saranac, and Allegan schools are among districts closed today. Allendale, Byron Center and Coopersville school distrcts are on a two hour delay.

A winter storm advisory remains in effect for the area from the National Weather Service until noon. Widespread snow showers has caused poor visibility and it is bitterly cold with wind chills of -5 to -15 degrees.

Michigan schools are allowed six days of cancellations per year before students have to make up the missed days.
