10 injured in explosion on erupting Mount Etna volcano
Tourists got a shock, when hot magma reacted with fallen snow causing an explosion.
Rebecca Morelle who was on the scene, tweeted:
Many injured some head injuries, burns, cuts and bruises, running down a mountain pelted by rocks, dodging burning boulders and boiling steam not an experience I ever, ever want to repeat.
The explosion threw rocks and steam into a group of tourists.
mt etna has been active for the past two days spewing lava and ash into the air. The south-eastern crater started a new lavastream on Wednesday.
Mt Etna is one of the most active volcanos on earth. Each year, it produces enough lava to fill a 108-story skyscraper and is prone to brief, powerful bursts of lava known as paroxysms.
The last aggressive eruption was in 1928, which destroyed the town of Mascali.
Although this eruption did not disrupt the surrounding towns, Mt Etna has the potential to be very dangerous.
