Wind gusts could reach 60 mph Wednesday, National Weather Service warns

Wind gusts as high as 60 mph are possible throughout Metro Detroit between Wednesday morning and Wednesday night,the National Weather Service warns.

A "high wind watch" was issued about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and is in effect for Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties from Wednesday morning through Wednesday evening.

Downed trees, minor structural damage and "numerous power outages" are possible, the weather servicesays.

"a high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous high wind event," according to the NWS. Westerly wind gusts frequently greater than 50 mph are expected by late Wednesday morning. Gusts near 60 mph are possible."
